Great instructional video. I have a young gelding, future western pleasure horse, who loves to lope. It seems to come more naturally to him than the jog or trot. So he's always eager to break into that lope, to the point now that it's become a bit of a constant problem. I'm sure I have not been consistent enough in my cues and methods. So starting tomorrow I'll try this exercise on him. Makes sense and looks like a very effective way to handle the problem. Thanks for sharing!

I‘m riding English and I would say I am still a beginner, that’s said, I‘ve got a riding participation on a really old gelding, who is not trained really well. Anyway when I’m riding him I automatically can tell from the start If he wants to today or not, and if not it’s he’ll. In the trot he always speeds up, to slow him down I start riding in the circle, which sometimes work, but after some time, without any order to canter, he starts to canter. And I can ride the canter pretty well but he starts to pull inward, against my commands and pressure. That’s where the danger starts. I can’t control him and he canters straight into the fences and walls. He stops before them in a sudden stop, and I am lucky I can keep myself seated, but it’s always really scary. And believe me I tried so much. I also know why he always goes there, because he wants to leave and get into the box. But he isn’t in pain, and he is also relaxed, at least that’s what the others told me. Pls help I want to ride without fearing to one day hurt the horse because he’s cantering into the a wall.

It never occurred to me to try this with my mare. She lives to canter, even at 30. I'll try it tomorrow!

Does this method apply if the horse tries to break into a full gallop when given a little rein?

Had a horse once who would not go from a walk to a trot, only went from a walk to a canter and had to be slowed into a trot. One person recognized her brand as a racing Arab, I wonder if that behavior wasn't a remnant of race training.

My Nez Perce gelding loves to get between a canter and gallop and when I bend him he canters diagonally for a good 100ft 🤦♀

IVE NOTICED THRU OUT YOUR VIDEOS...THAT WHEN YOU ARE CIRCLE CORRECTING YOU NEVER DO THE CORRECTING FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION. WHAT YOU DO ON 1 SIDE YOU DO ON THE OTHER FOR BALANCE? IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS? I LOVE WHERE YOUR MIND IS WITH THE HORSE.THANKQ

I believe in other videos, Ryan makes the point that you should stick with one side at first and then go bilateral.
