We can never sack out our horses and get them used to every possible scary object. What consistently sacking out our horses with different objects and in different places, we build a relationship with them. We build confidence, that if we say things are going to be OK they will be.
It is so very important to do the sacking out while standing still and while moving as well as from both sides of the horse.
The safest place to be is at the girth/ cinch area behind the shoulder and it is here that the horse can neither kick with back feet or strike with front feet. You also can let the horse move around you in a circle and your feet have the least chance of being stepped on. Horses feel much more comfortable when they can move their feet, if not they can get very claustrophobic and when they feel that way they may rear and try to strike or they may try to pull away.
