While we eagerly await MUM-10 bass drivers, we're beavering away working on new products (speaker stands and studio desks to name but two) and new content for our KZbin channel.
We also recently had a very productive meeting at one of our favourite recording studios, School Farm Studios in Little Maplestead, Essex, with owner Andrew Sunnucks, super-talented engineer Stefano Civetta and, founder of Record Production.com, the legendary Mike Banks.
We've been talking over the past few weeks about building our dream studio as an educational establishment, and School Farm Studios is already that - a dream studio, built to a specification not a budget, with top tier gear, an incredible sounding live room with adjacent booths, and the friendliest, kindest and most knowledgeable bunch of people you're ever likely to encounter.
So, why not start here, and now?
We are in the early stages of planning a two day educational workshop at School Farm, with accommodation provided (and the accommodation is top-tier too!) and so we want to ask you what kind of course you would like us to do.
Have you been on something similar before? If so, what worked and what could be improved upon?
Would you like to see a start-to-finish band production? An acoustic ensemble? Recording a string section? What would really help you, and what would you gain the most value from as a hands-on experience?
And how much do you think we should charge? Should we also video the whole weekend and have some valuable information from it out there for free on our KZbin channel, and should we offer the whole shebang as a low-cost online course for those who might not be able to attend?
We've had some FANTASTIC feedback and support from you over the past few weeks, so we'd really appreciate it if you could tune in from 6pm this evening and share your thoughts, and let us know what you would like to see!

Great video as always. I don’t give 2 dingles about the kit. There are studios all over the world that are world class just as this one is. You said it yourself, “at the end of day mix it sounds really good just by moving the faders because he knows what the going in.” My interest would be to sit down with him and discuss the pre-planning process. You don’t just show up at a studio, knock on the door and say hey let’s record? The process he uses to define what the tech and approach setup will be is the priceless part. Channel count, mic selection, daw rig setup. All sorts of stuff that needs to be thought through and setup before day 1 of tracking. Get that right and the capture part is easy. After tracking then there is mixing which is a whole other war and peace book. A lot to stuff into two days. But $1000 to $1500 US would reasonable and $500 for the online master class would be fine if it really covered in great detail the process. Not just the 30,000 ft level that most produce.

The console I suggested, the Neve one is recallable without having to touch anything but is completely analouge... all the EQ and compression is activated much like the McDSP concept, of of course they are not doing the wizardry stuff with the circuits to make more devices lol. Not sure about control of the transparency as Neve very much has a sound... nice one for recording, but again certain genres etc. I personally hope HumAudio turn their one into one as they have designed theirs to have 3 options on the input and one of them is transparent. You had said something in the stream that not many people know so think you should hit it home a bit more next time for people that don't understand this. Being successful in mixing is more about what you mix. The big mic engineers will often get marital they do not need to work like a dog over. But, if you are someone wanting to start out, like I am, and thinking of being a internet service, you do not have the luxury of being able to choose big budget productions to mix. It would be good even for myself self this one to hear how you make your way into the world you have found yourself on mixing in comparison to being a open door mixing studio. You had the guy from Audio Animals in, Paul, and of course for his open door internet service having analogue is key as people need him to put all the vibe and colour into a song not just mix it. He has gotten a lot big production work also but seems to float both ways in that respect. I wasn't very active in this live stream becuase this call to musicians... love the ideas, and look forward to seeing the events if you make video on them. Again... the only live stream I can sit in on and just be content... two people talking like normal people... nothing irritating and loud and fake and always bit humorous while being innocent enough you can just vibe with it. Cheers deers

Video editing would be great and as for the recording part, I’d be most interested in learning how to do it _without_ the gear fetishising, from how to manage cables and power to how to EQ with mic placement

I would like to know more about Dolby Atmos QC/mastering - what's it all about? But then, I will not be able to make it to your IRL session...😥

Sorry guys missed the live stream but on watching the recording, I heard the falling asleep comments and realised that all attendees should sign an N.D.A. = Non Dozing Agreement.
