You could tell when the song was a made up story, but that's different. They talked about the same things: the hood, selling drugs, earning stripes, etc. You sound like a fool.
It's always the rappers who ain't "legendary" nor has ever made an impact that always has something negative to say about other cats. Man the thing with Cube is that he lived in that environment, same can be said with Pac he wasn't in gang. Though both had talent and they knew how to mix things up. By talking about killing on one track, then wyling out to discuss social problems one be living. Death Certificate, was that a gangsta album ? yeah but it also had conscious topics too. I like the part where he was talking about the dope fiends. It's true. All that money that you are flashing and rapping about and hold as your own value was made by selling life ruining posion to your own people. That's not at all to be glorified, that's a fucking travesty. Rap music just hasn't matured. You get rappers straight off the streets who make songs about their lifestyle and it's entertaining so we all love it. But once that rapper becomes old and wise enough to realize that shit is wrong and wants to make music about other topics he gets replaced by a new, much younger rapper talking about the street shit and then we fall in love with them and the culture stays stagnant in negativity. We need a surge of young, extremely talented artists that are willing to take a stand and do what's right to break the cycle. Everyone knows this shit is true but nobody wants to be perceived as being uncool.
@JessJayEel9 жыл бұрын
+sakecity7 Provocative music is more interesting. That is why NWA was so successful. People want to push this inspirational stuff down people's throat, but no one wants it. If we lived in a more conservative lifestyle, maybe. But we don't. Mainstream Hip Hop for the most part is the people's guilty pleasure.
@WILD__THINGS9 жыл бұрын
Jess JayEel I agree and that's sad
@chicagomycity9 жыл бұрын
+Jess JayEel I see your point. But I don't know if music has to be "inspirational" all the time to not glorify violence. Because at the end of the day we are all human and go through trials and tribulations (anger, sadness, happiness, etc) whether rich, poor, black, white, etc. You can rap about fucked up shit going on in your life or the world. Thats not necessarily "inspirational" its just real shit. And people will relate to it. I don't think rap; will just die out once the Black community is no longer disproportionately poor. I think rappers like Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino, Kendrick; etc make it clear that music can be relateable without being inherently bad. Even Jay-Z; when he raps about selling drugs he is moreso painting you a picture of what he went through. I never really feel like he is saying "Hey; go do this; this is what is hot in the streets; real n****s sell drugs!!"
@WILD__THINGS9 жыл бұрын

+TruMusic89 Radio is influential but does not determine how successful a song is going to be. There are plenty of songs that are being played on the radio that nobody is buying on ITunes. My point is, even if the radio pushes the inspirational stuff, people are still going to buy what they like. The truth is the general population prefer hiphop music that makes them feel good vs the ones with substance. I'm guilty of it and it's my observation.

music is controlled by the popular drug at the time... look at every era and what the music was about. during the 60-70's heroin was popular and thats why it was a lot of depressing songs that came out during that time, during the 80-90's crack was popular so that era had a drug dealer vibe, during the 2000's the drug of choice was E's and molly so all you heard was party songs... today the drug of choice is lean which is still a party drug but its a lazy down type of high and thats why the tempo of these songs are slowing down but its still a party vibe... Weed will always be a popular drug of choice and thats why stoners always stay somewhat relevant in music... look at snoop... he outlived his era... but with the rapid growth of crystal meth it will be a new drug dealer vibe era coming in the near future... remember who said it first...

@deeplusplus9 жыл бұрын
Sir Williams Do you actually think having a negative opinion about something is "hating?" Because that's stupid. If I don't like pizza, I'm not hating on it, I just don't like it. The fans do dictate what goes on. Without any fans, who are you going to rap to? Who will buy the albums? I don't even know where you were going with the whole aficionado vs. fanatic thing. If you think somebody who raps for a living isn't a fan of rap music, then I can't help you. I don't know what you think it means to be a fan of something. Or to have an opinion. That's just dumb.

Trap artists shouldnt be referred to as "rappers". As KRS One said " Dont fall in love with material items". Thats all the mainstream artist talk about. Hip hop hasnt gone soft people are just referring to artists such as fetty wap as hip hop. Underground is where the real hip hop is. so many talented MCs still doing it and get no recognition.

+NuNus Knees Trap music is more generic and easier than gangsta rap. Anyone could be a trap rapper; just by cooking crack and cocaine, bragging how much money you got from your spot and there you go. If trap rappers could spit and talented, I don't hate it but nowadays it's vice versa.
@nunusknees29289 жыл бұрын
Shawn Orjiakor Nah man, anyone can talk about gang banging and drugs. Also murdering people. Its the same in that regard and I grew up with gangsta rap. During the 90s you could find alot of generic gangsta rappers

The thing with Gangsta rap was that it was a new thing back then no one talked about it till people like G Rap, Schooly D came and expanded when NWA/Deathrow came. After Deathrow everything was eh. Cause of Deathrow people saw the success and dudes was like Hey I can do that ! and they do and people like Fetty come. Trap is just generic, yeah some gangsta rappers are generic too but it was barely noticeable. Trap is the opposite

The reason why is because he was able to created a song about that that life and make it picture perfect word wise about those moments that the real g's were doing at that time in that era. He was more like a person whose words can paint an image that all gangs could relate to, but if he stepped out of line with their (real street nigga) mentality in any sort of a big headed way (like being at a party and throwing up gang signs and using the word cuzz to much) he would get put in his place very quickly with the wrath of the gangsta respect code. Now a days don't nobody care what he does as long as he don't go backwards and dumb down off his success even thoe I feel he has been accepted by some hood in some way for his money and success and not by way of building a rep on the frontline from day one except in the world of business ( tours, interviews, radio etc.). Basically he is where he should be an actor and movie writer. I ain't mad at him in any way for that move up the business ladder.

In regards to the Ice Cube question. The reason it's okay for him to rap about it even if he ain't do it is because the music was good, the lyrics were good.

Vlad stop complaining ice cube isn't a gangsta. I also a super fan of him but i don't see him as a gangsta. He was a storyteller and tales-man talking reality shit around the hood. Before nwa, none of the gangbangers didn't even use rap and talk about shit til '93. He already address that shit on Death Certificate. If you wanna know research about that, then interview WC. And stop talking about Alonzo Williams he said some ignorant shit too.

The problem with what Vlad is trying to catch Cube up in to defend Fetty Wap is Cube has said..that he was rapping for the cats who had no voice. He wasn't promoting it like these cats today. He was like most emcees were...Hood reporters.

Why is Vlad acting all surprised when they said Fetty Wap is not that dope. Cmon Vlad...do u really think Fetty Wap is the best and most talented sounding artist??? IF u do then u need to shut down vlad Tv because I believe there are plenty of artist out there who sound better and are way more talented musicly then Fetty wap.

Vlad doesn't understand context. He was talking about NWA itself being a gang, he didn't say anything about bloods or crips

Vlad knows that CF (Constant Flow) is 50 billion times better than Fetty Wap and from Jersey City. But, then again, Immortal Technique only knows true talent. Horseshoe Gang is on the level with CF and Tech and Hassan Salaam.

the only trap rappers that will go down ass legends are Gucci Mane, Jeezy, and Future. There's nothing wrong with trap it's just different
@Bighangout1129 жыл бұрын
Why are people even surprised about this? People think that every rapper that comes out is a the next (Insert legendary rapper here). just because they have 1,2,3 or 4 good songs out really dosent make them heaven scent, its not even about the sound its more of what they talk about, atleast to me it is.

Lyrical rappers outside Kendrick, J. Cole don't aren't killing the game like that. Future can't rap to save his life, neither can Young Thug, but they have hooks, chorus's for days!

Most of these Young Rappers were influenced by Rappers of 2006-2010. From the likes of Gucci Mane, Waka, Yung Jock, Soulja Boi, and others. That's why today's Rap has the same sound because they were listening to them when they were coming to age. And not to mention, the northern rappers has a south Rap sound.

The long time problem with rap today is there is not much of a balance. You can't so much of the same thing.
