Crazy to see the equipment they used yet how consistent they were

Old bow tech and they were still getting perfect scores. Everyone was well dressed.

Terry Ragsdale shot a 900 at Vegas that year to take home $2,500 prize money for the Unlimited Men’s class. Second place shot an 899. That is insane! The prize money was great especially for back then, but to think you could drop one point the entire event over 90 arrows you only put one outside the ten ring…and still lose. Archery needs to be introduced in all our public schools starting in grade school and continuing through university. I think it will help so many kids to learn the discipline and focus of archery but also help all the kids who don’t play sports to experience the rewarding feeling of accomplishment that comes with hitting the ten ring.

So true. There's so much more to archery than hitting the X ring - discipline.

Everything is done so professionally I love it. It seems that over the years in archery, equipment and competition has improved dramatically but etiquette if you will has kind of been pushed away. Everything is more of a show now and not a competition. I’m not saying that it’s become a bad thing it’s just interesting to see how the sport has evolved

Not a d loop in sight!!! I want one of the old compound for barebow
@maikp5505 Жыл бұрын
Incredible how much the compound bow and the hand held release have changed so much. On the other hand look how clean the archers look. Now days they have all these teddy bears and flags hanging from quivers and some of them with supper baggy pants. All tatted up and no one tucks in.

Release loops were the rage then and obviously very accurate!
@kirkethridge25004 ай бұрын
we didn't need d loops, because of the bow length not causing nock pinch like the short bows used today,, the bows you saw here would be 46 inches axle to axle. (40 is a long bow today) As a matter of fact, i don't remember ever seeing one until late 90's. & Stewart Bowman used one (he had very long draw length) builder of bowman accu-riser bows. back then

The turning point of archery. Rip historical archery

Compound bows are phenomenal to shoot. I am very happy to see how far bows have come. The speed, comfort, and accuracy of new compound target bows is just outstanding. The competition recurve bows are also amazing these days. It was not the "turning point" of archery, but more so it was the birth of a new class of archery equipment..... precision target archery. I do not have nearly as much interest in shooting instinctively at a 4 ft. hay bail from 20 yards, trying to hold a 12" grouping, than I do putting 3 arrows into a coin sized hole at 20 yards, or baseball sized hole at 50m.... THAT is far more interesting to me and something to strive towards. ... Olympic recurve is the same... what they can do with modern recurves is just amazing.... and the best part is, you can still shoot the old style long bows and recurves.... and be able to pick up a compound bow that is capable of shooting arrows into 1 hole at 20 yards if you do your job.... archery has never been in a better place... ever.

How did you find such rare vintage footage? I was heavily into archery in the mid 80’s and lived in Boston. I’m 100% certain this footage never reached the NewEngland TV Region. Thank you for putting this up. Cheers from New Hampshire ☘️

On those years the loop used to be part of the release aid.
@kirkethridge25004 ай бұрын
i had never heard of one until late 90s. they were not needed or rarely thought of until the string angles became so acute with short axle to axle bows, & the release rope then would pinch the nock off the string. I never saw one til late 90's & then with very long draw length archers.
