I was there that memorable night. First time to see them in 35 years. And they were AWSOME. So pleased to have this video and audio recording as a reminder. It is now almost THIRTEEN years further on since that gig at the O2 in Dublin but the flame burns as brightly as ever. And I'm so pleased that Barry and Jim are still out there 'doing it'. So sad that Eamon, Charles, and Johnny all have called it a day, or appear to have done so. But I don't say this in criticism. They have earned that right, and more than, in truth. But I guess I'm greedy. Horslips have been, arguably, THE soundtrack to my life. I bought Johnny's Wedding in 1970 - 50 years ago. And I have bought everything they have ever produced since, many many times over. On vinyl, cassette tape, CD, video, DVD, you name it. And I cannot wait to get my aged hands on the More Than You Can Chew box set so I can lock myself away for several years and listen to it until my ears pack it in. Horslips were OUR band. The band that brought rock music to those of us in rural Ireland who were starved of REAL rock. Yes we had the showbands, some of whom were very very good indeed. And who never deserved the condescending attitude they received from many in the music press of the day. But, at best, showbands were purveyors of pop music, not rock. We never really saw Thin Lizzy, Grannies Intentions, The Orange Machine, Skid Row or any of the rock bands that sprang up in the urban areas. Understandably, given the costs involved, these bands focused on the cities, or moved abroad to try cracking the international music market. Horslips played in parts of Ireland that other rock bands never touched - Tramore, Midleton, Cahir, Rooskey, Clonmel, Muff. all locations where I, or my friends, saw them LIVE. And how amazing was that! So thank you guys. Thank you for 50 years, and counting, of musical pleasure. Thank you for countless memories. And thank you for making me proud of my Irish culture, my Irish heritage, and my musical tastes. Horslips abú go fóill!
