I pulled my sky pencils out 2 yrs ago after surrendering to the spidermites. Haven't replaced them but Red Sky could do the trick.

Just came home with some Jade Lance holly, another one of Dr. Ruter's improved Sky Pencil varieties. Clearance sale at Home Depot, gotta love that this time of year! 👍

I just ordered a Red Sky Pencil Holly from Southern Living on Homedepot’s site and the website states that it “matures at 8ft” but the ones in the video look significantly taller.

Just the place I 1st thought to look. I’ll check to see if they still have any. I think they do the at least guessing on the height; just as mostly everyone else seem to do.

I'm assuming the UGA trial field suffered similar conditions as we did 45 miles away in Dawson county. I saw no residual damage unless it grew through it. Even hardy plants didn't like the way the freeze came in. Love your videos from Athens, they've done so much for ornamental horticulture!

I needed this video. My sky pencil has been in a state of suspended animation for 3 years; it's put on about three inches of growth in that time. Ordered a Red Sky today. Thanks for this information. Just what I needed.

I have been gardening for 20 years and decided to grow a pencil holly since they fit the space. I have seen them growing around the neighborhood. My Sky pencil has been struggling and I thought that there was something I’m doing wrong. Will definitely pull the crruent one out and replace it with Red Sky Holly.

Very nice work on the Red SkyA I've never been able to get excited about the Japanese Holly look and I really dislike sky pencil Holly's . . . I do get why people like them there's Definitely some practical uses. Emerald Colonade is an exception I do like to use those on my designs

6 to 9. More likely 6 to 8. Some people say 5 on these Japanese hollies, but I doubt it

Seems to be taller and wider than the Japanese Holly sky pencil which defeats the purpose why most people choose the Japanese sky pencil.
