‘You… lied.’ ‘Veteran’s prerogative,’ came the reply. ‘We’ll go together then, shall we?’ Huron-Fal asked, embracing Temeter’s body to him, moving swiftly away from the bunker. It took every last effort from Temeter to nod. Blinded now, he could feel the tissues of his eyes burning and shrivelling in his head, the soft meat of his lips and tongue dissolving. Huron-Fal’s systems were on the verge of shut-down as he stumbled to a safe distance, skidding to a halt. ‘This death,’ rasped the voder, ‘this death is ours. We choose it. We deny you your victory.’ With a single burning nerve impulse, the mind of the warrior at the heart of the Dreadnought uncoupled the governor controls on his compact fusion generator and let it overload. For a moment there was a tiny star on the battered plains outside the Choral City, marking two more lives lost within a maelstrom of murder.

The scouring of Istvaan III would only truly end 10,000 years later after Rylanor activated his makeshift psychic beacon to bait Fulgrim to his location, solely to give him one last middle finger with an undetonated virus bomb. An action so powerful, it actually managed to irreparably hurt the pride of the most vainglorious demigod in the warp. And an action equally as inspiring and noble that it convinced a cabal of Tzeentchian sorcerers to turn loyal in their last moments and also give Fulgrim the middle finger before being consumed by the virus bomb.

Titus Cassar was a Moderati Primus of the Imperator Battle Titan Dies Irae during the Horus Heresy. Secretly, Cassar was a member of the Lectitio Divinitatus, a cult that worshipped the Emperor of Mankind as a divine being. He was often ridiculed for this belief by his friend and fellow moderati Jonah Aruken, though the two paired up to rescue the remembrancer and "saint", Euphrati Keeler, from the mute assassin Maggard. During the battle for Isstvan III, after the virus strike and firestorm, Princeps Turnet ordered the moderatii to open fire on the Death Guard loyalists, and Cassar confronted Turnet in a brief autopistol duel. However, as Cassar intended to kill Turnet for his betrayal of the God-Emperor, Aruken - determined to gain command of his own Titan one day - killed his friend and ended the duel.

God, this episode made me so emotional. So far I've only gotten fragments of 40k lore filtered through to me through songs, like "Rylanor's Last Stand" or "Flight of the Eisenstein". Like, I was so worried that Tarvitz's ship would be shot down, but then at 35:40 I cheered "IT'S THE EISENSTEIN!" (recognizing it from the song). God, did it relieve me to see a ship that could be trusted to be loyal to mankind. I cheered so fucking hard at 43:30, when the loyalists defiantly emerged from the ruins. "YES! LONG LIVE HUMANITY! KILL ALL THE TRAITORS! RAGE AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT!", I cheered. I also absolutely loved the humans enduring in the trenches and defying death. And when Lucius revolted, I paused, grabbed a sword that is hanging off my wall, and offered my service for a chance to kill the traitor, before realizing I couldn't actually participate in the battle and putting it back on the wall. When Garviel Loken fought Abbadon, I could just *feel* the utter rage. I yelled that I wanted to strangle Abbadon to death. And when the video ended, I saluted and swore to avenge the fallen of Istvaan III, before again realizing I couldn't fight for the Imperium. God, never has *any* sort of media made me this emotional. Nothing has ever captured me as much as a band of faithful humans desperately trying to fight back against the downfall of mankind.
