I'll never forget the patient with a chronic respiratory illness who didn't have money or family and couldn't safely care for herself anymore. SNFs are the fail-safes we've set up for those people and she was placed in one and she wasn't allowed to access her nebulized medications which she needed for comfort, and then COVID started ripping through & she was in a room with 5 other people separated by curtains being cared for by staff who also didn't have access to adequate PPE. She asked me what she should do and I had to tell her you have to pick between 2 terrible options. Both of them are bad. I really couldn't tell her which one was worse. She discharged home & discharged from hospice. I don't know what happened but the fear in her eyes was so palpable I can still feel it. Thank you for making this video. It's been a hard pandemic where people continue to die and experience mass disabling and I don't think any of us will ever be the same.

That’s absolutely heartbreaking! SNFs took a big hit during Covid; they were already so understaffed and under-resourced before that, it was gut wrenching to watch them go through the thick of Covid. And also to hear how some of the world looked at that patient population as expendable. We truly all won’t be the same after going through this. I also hate that we can’t get updates on our patients, but I obviously understand the HIPAA part of it all We form such close bonds with them, I wish we knew where and how their journey ended.

Hey, I’m a inpatient hospice nurse and we have to answer the same questions over and over again. (Why are you giving pain medication when the pt is “sleeping”? Why do they need a foley? Why aren’t you feeding the Patient? Ect) I’m wondering if you have or know of a FAQ sheet for hospice?
@HospiceNurseAllie2 жыл бұрын
So as far as FAQ sheet I do not, but are you looking more so for a flow sheet/patient report sheet (if you know what I mean)
@annerollins54472 жыл бұрын
@@HospiceNurseAllie not a report sheet, but something we can give to the families. It seems like we are always repeating ourselves to the families and it would be so much easier to have something printed out to give to them so they refer back to.

Your poignant contrast of PPE and July 4 parties made me teary eyed. But that's a good thing!

Contrast is the perfect word to describe it too! It’s like, in healthcare our worlds had stopped but the rest of the world kept moving without a care.
