In my exclusive pumping journey I started off with the Spectra S1, then the Baby Buddha, and now I’m mostly using the Medela Symphony. Occasionally, I’ll use the Baby Buddha. The Spectra took forever to empty me and the Baby Buddha is too strong, so more painful. The Medela takes 15-20 min, is significantly more comfortable, and helped increase my supply. I’m so glad I got it. For me it’s worth the rental cost.

I was debating between buying a used symphony or a new spectra... ur comment has really helped. The baby buddha didn't work for me either thank you

I actually did research on this too, after realizing that stronger suction does not equal more milk, and it's just a marketing tool to attract more buyers. Some people need strong suction, but most people don't need a nipple ripper lol

Isn’t it taste or more efficient though? The baby Buddha reports 1/3 to 1/2 the time which is cool… if you can tolerate it

@@TB-rx1ue a lot of pumps state that on their packaging. It's just a sale tactic and literally anyone can put that statement on their packaging. Sometimes having a really strong suction can swell your milk ducts shut and you won't get as much milk

Exactly.. I seem to do better by keeping my pump in stimulation mode. I do like a 5-2 thing for every 5 minutes of stimulation, 2 minutes of expression.

Companies claim hospital grade on any closed system pump. Which is pretty much every electric pump on the market now that medela revamped their pump in style. A true hospital grade pump would be the pumps in the nicu. With both of my preemies I had to rent a symphony for the first 3 or so months until my milk regulated. The symphony that are in the nicu and mom and baby units in the hospital have a special program card that is meant to do certain sucks like a newborn that is trying to bring in your milk supply.

I used a medela symphony the first week while my daughter was in nicu. The suction was so strong that I had a difficult time using my spectra afterwards because it was so gentle in comparison.

Would you be able to rate the suction on the symphony. I’m on a lot of relactation groups and everyone recommends it. I didn’t have the best results from it I had better results with the baby Buddha. I’m curious how it compares to others including something like the spectra synergy that I also own

Also the sonata that medela sells they try to market it like it’s a cheaper version of the symphony. But I have no idea how they perform side by side

The only thing I like about the symphony is its ‘smoothness;’ what would be an equivalently smooth home pump that isn’t $2500?

So the Spectra S3 is around $900.00. The Unimom opera is another great one! I’ve always associated “hospital grade” as multi user and usually dual motor. But for Pumps line Spectra Gold, I call it “consumer hospital grade” where you can openly buy it (non rental). But it has dual motor and multi user friendly, as an affordable price.

I don’t think the spectra synergy gold is listed as a multi user pump, but it is a great pump!

I had nicu twins and used the medela symphony. I hated it. Obviously it brought my milk in but my supply is half of what it should be to feed twins. The symphony gave me nipple pain :( It’s also not at all customizable. You can only change the suction level. I think they market it heavily to hospitals but it’s really not much better than a pump like spectra S1. All just marketing tactics

What could cause a baby to not gain weight, even when producing copious amounts of milk? I'm expecting my 4th... I didn't bf my first 2... and tried with my third... she was losing weight and fast.... I tried pumping and feeding, I was getting tons of milk... but it looked super watery... she would take tons and still lose... as soon as the doctors made me introduce formula, she shot up in weight and it ruined my bf experience. I really wanna try again with my 4th but I am afraid of a rerun of last time. What could cause watery milk? Is there anything I can do to avoid that happening? It was like my milk was not fatty enough or giving proper nutrients.
@TheOtherKathryn
@TheOtherKathryn Жыл бұрын
Sorry this happened to you. Talk to a professional lactation consultant!! It sounds like your milk didn’t have enough fat. I EP’d from birth and my baby didn’t gain enough in the first week because I wasn’t pumping long enough to get the fatty hind milk and I was also trying to change back to the keto diet (which I’d been on for 10+ yrs) post birth. Quickly figured out and changed these things back and it’s working great now.

Yes, a good reliable pump would be essential for you! Many of the personal grade pumps are solid as well, but they vary a bit. Which ones are you looking at?

So I’m having a bit of a panic moment after watching your video. My baby girl was on NICU for a week and I was offered the use of their heavy duty hospital grade medela on the ward. I said no thank you as I already had a pumpables “hospital grade” pump that I brought with me in my room. 4 weeks post partum and I’m still only managing to pump 50mls a feed (she’s drinking 100mls). Should I have used the hospital pumps? If I had would I be managing to make enough milk now? I feel really stupid now not accepting that resource - I didn’t realise just how different they were in effectiveness
@NewLittleLife
@NewLittleLife 2 жыл бұрын
Don’t worry! You have a good pump and a hospital grade one isn’t necessary to get what you need. As long as you’re pumping often and with the right size flange, that’s most important. If you’re curious, you can rent one now and give it a try! But really, you have a good pump!! All you. Can do is the best in the moment with the information you have. If it was that important you use a different one, I’d hope the hospital staff would have told you so! Many moms forget to bring or don’t have a pump yet so they always offer in the hospital.

My milk supply has been low for a few months. My baby is five months now and I need to give her formula sometimes. Do you think a pump like Medela would help increase my supply if I pumped often? I've been using a Dr. Browns one and only get .5 - 1 oz every two to three hours.

hope you did use the Medela! I get so little with an Elvie, but I get 3 times more with my Medela. Would have gone back to formula if I hadn't switched.

@Elizabeth Nwachukwu If you have not already, do try to talk with a lactation consultant. You are pumping often enough! They can be really helpful. Try power pumping (look at schedule online). Also stay well hydrated. Also remember that you may not yet produce a whole lot because your baby is very little. Take it day by day. You got this!
