Hossfeld Bender - Tooling #2

This is the second video for making tooling for the Hossfeld #2 bender. In this video I make the two blocks used for some bending processes, the center pin support plate and the U-Pin support plate.

This is cool, I watched them all and I think I will watch them again. I've had the plans and have been wanting to make a Hossfeld bender for a couple of years. I think I'll order the flat bar for the frame as motivation. I hope you have more video coming I'd love to see you make more of the tooling. -Mike

You can see the hardening on the end , a carbide endmill will sort it out . Always worth a wipe with an old file before machining anything . Great video and build series!

Thanks Ian. It is funny, I have seen so many videos where others test the hardness of steel with a file, but i just did not think of doing that at the time.

Love watching this get made and assembled. You really need a few different sized flycutters. It will make your milling a lot easier and your finishes a lot better. If you use broken end mills as the cutters you are almost cutting for free. I kind of remember a nice block of steel that loves you...... Mark

Yes, I do need some smaller fly cutters. I recall cutting a piece of steel to build a smaller one about 6 months ago, but I got tied up with other projects that I did not end up making it. Maybe I should get back to that and make a short video on that build.

Awesome video mate! Definitely inspired me to get onto this project myself. Quick question - what oil & process do you use for your hot blue? Looks like a great result...

Thanks for watching. In this case I used unused auto transmission oil. It was given to me from a friend and I had no other use for it. I have used old engine oil in the past and that also works fine, but it does smell quite a bit. I heat the items until they go past the dark blue color, then quench them in the oil.
