I'm so happy to see you did a video on Incredible sweet corn. This has been our standard corn we plant every year since the early 2000s. No matter what other corn varieties I plant we always reserve a big chunk of space for plenty of Incredible. It's just absolutely incredible! I have to admit serendipity and some of the newer ones are a tad tastier,but nothing out does Incredible when it comes to the total package. It produces like crazy,tastes delicious,stays low starch on the plant and stores really really well in the cooler. Plus it can't be beat for freezing and canning. If you have livestock they'll go crazy for the husks and stalks too. Thank you for highlighting my all time favourite sweet corn variety!

I have a question for you. Is the Incredible corn an easy silking corn? For example. We’ve grown G90 and Bodacious sweet corn for years. It is easy to silk. Ambrosia,Candy Korn are two more we love to eat but are much harder to remove silks from them. It’s not at all bad for eating but when we put it up for the winter it’s a lot more work to prep the ears.

Thanks Andy! We have found that many seed companies just have so many corn varieties that you can't distinguish them. So we try to make that clear for everyone.
@davidbrumbaugh39502 жыл бұрын
Research has shown that a one inch planting depth appears to be too shallow for corn. It needs another half inch more depth to facilitate development of the upper root system that comes on later in the growth habit, which has been shown to be VERY important for yield. However, a faster emerging 1" shallow planting depth can be mitigated by later "hilling" in the corn using a hoe to mound up the earth at the base of the plant when it reaches about a foot tall and incorporate a side dressing of fertilizer.

How far apart does the seeder space the seeds?
@gardeningwithhoss5 жыл бұрын
Depends on how many holes are in the plate. You can completely customize that. In one revolution of the seed plate inside the hopper, the seeder travels 19" inches. So take 19" inches and divide it by the number of holes in the plate and there's your spacing. You can make as many or as few holes as you'd like for the spacing you desire.

I saw your reply to Dash that you folks don't sell any GMO seeds. That's good news! That raises a question: Can I dry out an ear of Incredible to save the kernels for planting next year? Also, how do you compare Incredible to Peaches and Cream? The PnC is the "gold standard" at the Farmer's Markets up here in Michigan, and so I'm thinking it would be interesting to offer it as an alternative at our local Farmer's Market (once I have a garden, of course) to see what everyone thinks of it.
@gardeningwithhoss5 жыл бұрын
Since it's a hybrid variety, the seeds you save won't be true to variety. So no, you couldn't save them and expect the same results. Incredible is a sugary-enhanced variety, just like Peaches & Cream. So they will taste very similar and have similar storage potential. The only big difference is one is yellow and one is bicolor.

After planting the seeds do you water them everyday?

I've had trouble with my corn blowing over during hard rains or high winds in the past so I decided to plant deeper. I noticed you planted less than 1" and the bag of corn recommended 1". There are several agricultural sites I visit (including our county extension office) that recommends no less than 1.5" to 2 1/4". I planted to just under 2" this year and the Heney Select corn all came up with about 95% germination with good emergence. Do you think these difference in depth of planting is a big deal?
@gardeningwithhoss5 жыл бұрын
Many sites that recommend deeper seed planting depths are not considering whether the farmer is using drip irrigation. Planting deep works well if you're counting on mother nature to germinate the seeds. But with the drip tape, we can flood the row and get them germinated quickly.
