Greg, A few years back I ordered a dozen of the 144 cell PropTek 10x20 trays. I took one of them and cut it into smaller cell groupings with my radial arm saw. I made some 5x6 cell (30 to fit the HOSS 24 cell bottom tray), some 3x10 cell (30 to fit the Hoss 12 cell botom tray), and a number of 3x2 (6) will fit both the Hoss 12 or 24 cell bottom tray. We have limited garden space, and I usually grow either 3 or 6 of a variety wanting to plant either 2 or 4 in the garden (plant extra). Much easier to work with small quantities in the cut cell units than keeping track of 6 of this and 6 of that in a row in the full cell tray. Also the 12 and 24 cell bottom trays fit my growing rack perfectly, as does a 10x20 (even the Proptek which is a little bigger), but the large PropTeks are too long. I cut my tray cells before the recent releases of the 4 and 6 cell air pruning small trays, and being PropTek, I'm on year #3 (about to be #4) using these cut cell units. Has Hoss considered carrying the smaller 4 or 6 cell durable trays? Not sure how they would fit in the existing Garland bottom trays, but it might be something to consider. I know not everyone will want to cut up a perfectly good cell tray (I still have plenty of them at 144 size). I wish there was an option in the 72 cell range as well, but I have not seen one from PropTek. I'll probably start my early seeds in the next week or two and it won't be long before starting the main season stuff!!!! Almost time to Get Dirty again!!!!

Thanks for sharing about cutting up the trays. I am considering ordering from Hoss, but was wondering if they could be cut down.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, we are searching for such. I have look at several and not been impressed. I hope to have a option by next year.

@@rv4tyler You end up loosing a cell row where the edge cuts are made. But that one lost row can be the edge of two cutouts. Just draw it out on paper and plan your cuts for the least amount of loss.

I think I'll be ordering some of that purple broccoli! I need more trays anyway, so I'll just add the broccoli seeds to that order. Thanks for the information! Very helpful.

🌺 Great information especially in the seed companies. Even though some say moving into zone 9, I’m staying and buying seeds for zone 8. I’ve bought from ya’all and seeds 100% I do buy also from other companies and this yr is about experimenting for me. And yes some of your seeds are alittle more expensive but worth every penny so far. Thank you!

Grew kohlrabi for the first time this fall. It is a forevsr keeper. Sliced them thin for a healthy chip substitute with hummus or other dips, or diced in salads since it works like a non-spicy radish. Roots and leaves are great.

could you please do a bit about calcium supplementation, especially spoon feeding calcium...with calcium nitrate, calcium EDTA, and any other relevant variants? seems that light cultivated topsoil and planters need a regular boost, but especially after all the winter cold and rain. i'm suspecting that other nutrient deficiencies can have a root cause by calcium deficiency.

I was wondering what temp they have to be at. I didn’t know if the heat mats they are sitting on are turned on or if they are just there to help hold content in trays.

I always appreciate your educational videos and learn so much. Your products have helped me have a successful garden last year and I'm looking forward to another good year. Talking about seed starting trays I had some of those cheap seed trays last year and would like to purchase some of those sturdy trays for my onions. Last year I grew 100 onions. This year I want to grow 200. Maybe the 162 tray is what I need. I don't have much time because I need to start them this month here is zone 5b. My seeds are ordered already and should arrive soon. I had really good luck with the Johnny seeds I used last year and the fertilizer with drip irrigation I purchased from Hoss was a game changer. Best year ever. I have grown my cabbage very early under low tunnels with snow on the ground and had the best luck this way because there was no pest pressure in the cold weather.

Hey! Happy new year all of you! I accidentally moved a collard two years ago to a shade area that gets afternoon to sundown sun. Well, it struggled during the hot summer, did not bolt, and now it’s coming back! Well, if that is the case, when it starts to get hot, I’ll move this winter crop of collards to the same place for next year’ cool weather season. Will they develop to tree collards? We will find out. Also, I plan to grow Jerusalem artichokes in a place set aside just for them. I found out fermenting them in brine reduces the insulin, famous for digestive health but also flatulence. High in nutrition and a perpetual crop with no maintenance, this should be a regular around our place. Do you sell this item?
