this is ace. I can think of lots of ways to use this and to expose it beyond that of a container - containers are king and again, you bring us quality commentary on premium container technogy as is your forte hope your doing ok, good to see your content as always

Thanks to your video I am now able to share delicate information with my team via a self-hosted messenger software. The sound quality for audio needs a little bit of improvement. But who am I to complain. Great software so far. Thank You!

Great review! Ive been using matrix with the element app self hosted on my raspberry pi 4b 8gb on umbrel. I can easily have 10-15 ppl chatting, or doing voice calls, the pi handles it like a champ!

Woohoo Docker 😀 I love self-hosting and self-hosted apps. At work some departments use mattermost. It would be interesting to make a comparison of these chat applications.

Excellent video! I'm struggling to come up with a use case for the trial version. The Voice chat available at the Pro level definitely adds some nice functionality. How does this compare, cost wise, to Discord?
@DBTechYT
@DBTechYT Жыл бұрын
I mean... Voce's upgrade is $49/server and doesn't seem to have nearly as many features as Discord, but if you're trying to go "off-grid" for a small community the free version seems pretty decent.

@@DBTechYTThere are definitely benefits to hosting on-prem instead of in the cloud. But then the question is,, expose to the interwebs? or require a VPN? lol. too much thinking for a Friday!

I agree. Lots to consider. Not sure I'll ever actually deploy this into production, but I thought it was an interesting option

5:35 You had mentioned CasaOS. I went looking for video you made on it but only saw videos from a year ago. I was thinking on installing on my Intel NUC but I wasn't sure. Are you still using CasaOS? is there any benefit to running CasaOS versus Portainer with a dashboard?
@DBTechYT
@DBTechYT Жыл бұрын
I am not using CasaOS for anything other than making content. It's fine for people who don't want to learn Docker or self-hosting and just want a simple setup. I prefer Docker and Portainer and CLI over CasaOS

This project fills me with confidence when they use discord on their own website :)
@DBTechYT
@DBTechYT Жыл бұрын
I think they do that because a lot of people have a Discord account and not everyone has a VoceChat account. They're just trying to make sure they can support as many people as efficiently as possible

It's not free. I cannot add more than 20 users over. I'm willing to pay enough, but when I did self-hosted I don't think I'm setting up a server. It seems that only scale-up is possible, but is there no function to set up storage or DB separately? anybody know db or stroage docker-compose setup
@DBTechYT
@DBTechYT Жыл бұрын
I said IN THE VIDEO that the free version only supports 20 users. I did not try to hide this. Also, if you had taken the time to look at the links I provided in the video's description, you'd know that there are other Docker deployment options available that include persistent storage.

I don't know what to tell you. If I don't explain the software, then people don't know what to do with it and complain. If I do explain the software, people complain that I talk too much. I encourage ALL of those people to go make their own KZbin channel and realize the struggle for themselves.
@PicSta
@PicSta Жыл бұрын
@@DBTechYT I want to apologize for my complaining. I know it's not easy to run a KZbin channel, especially to make all of your audience happy. I just wish that you can come faster to the point. Explaining things is important, but it seems you drift away easily, why I wrote my comment. I think it's better people tell what they think, rather than walking away, and you don't know why. So please don't take this too personal, you do a great job. Have a great weekend.
