When doing a giant hosta, will I get a Giant hosta from seeds?

Great vid. Thanks for sharing.

Good video. I usually let everything die down to the ground - never considered harvesting seeds. This fall, I'll harvest some and see what happens next spring with them.

Do the pods grow after the flowers? I usually cut the scapes off after they flower. Is that why I’m not getting any? 🤔

Yes, the pods form after the flowers. Not all flowers will produce seed pods, though.

Thank you for this. Very detailed and informative and with no fluff. Good job.

Thx for all the info. I watched all three videos. All I do is split mine and replant them. This summer I’ll try the seed thing.

A shrimp fork also works great for getting the seeds out of the pod.

Thanks I've watched this a number of times. Just curious can you register a new hosta that has been open pollinated?
@davidteager Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. You don't need to specify either parent (but curious folks hope you do).

a toothpick, or the dull side of a small knife, work fine as well

So seed pods do not need to turn brown before picking off the plant?
@davidteager Жыл бұрын
No

@@davidteagerThank you!!! All other videos I’ve seen says that they need to be brown, so THANK you for showing that isn’t needed. I collected mine green so I’m very happy to hear this. How long do they need to dry before they turn brown and open up? 😊
