These are awesome!!! Reminds me of being a kid in the 70's. My dad had a Rayson Craft flatbottom with a Chev 427 L-88. We would take it to the Colorado and Kings Rivers, etc. Lot of fun, and I miss those days.

the motor in the boat @ 259 is big block chevy it just has a high pitch wine because its 8 into 1 exhaust which gives it the indy car sound. I think the green and gold boat is the fastest out of these

I used to race there probably 30 years ago with a 427 highriser in a boat called yahoo (fitting now) anyways I have moved to oregon now and havn't been there in a while. Do cops still look the other way or is it alot more illegal now?

Do the math. Cast iron big block with aluminum heads is at least 700 pounds -that's just the naked long block! Add all of the belt driven accessories,headers ,intake manifold.Blower and carbs,misc, hardware transmission,V-drive and mounting cross member as well as the drive shaft,strut and rudder. All this qualifies as "motor weight" since it is in part of the boats propulsion package. If it was single engine outboard for example a mercury EFI 2.5-280hp its total weight with all is440 lbs

Ok, let's "really" do the math. Big block chevy with aluminum heads and aluminum intake is 600 pounds. There's only 1 belt driven accessory- that being an alternator (and most don't even have that). Blower if applicable maybe 40-50 pounds...? There's no transmission which wouldn't count as an engine part anyway. So doing the math, the engine might be 700lbs fully dressed. That's far from the 1000lb you stated. Driveline and boat rigging does not count as "engine".

Jack P Smith Sanger flatbottoms came in a wide variety of models. Do you not know which model you have? How long is it? Does it have a bubble deck? Is the bottom flat or have runners or gull bottom maybe...? I love the old Fords! Is yours cross bolted?

Canopy's saves lives and prevent serious injuries but they do have limits. They add cost and add weight but they do improve aerodynamic efficiencies. what you'resaying holds true in small performance boats. in todays offshore powerboat they are available with airconditioned cockpit enclosure some with gullwing doors.All of which are very expensive! but not race only .

An outboard has 3 major advantages. 1. A perfect shaft angle 2. More room in the boat. 3. Fuel economy A big v8 can make up for the loss in efficiency with it's endless potential for making power. keep in mind these boats are not tunnel hulls which are the only hulls that outboards can really perform well with. The faster boats in this video are NOT burning pump gas and some are burning methanol. Power to weight ratio would drop significantly using outboard power which defeats the purpose.

The one big disadvantage to an outboard is you have to change the direction of the Horse power through gear sets so you’re losing power. These little go fast lake boats are best powered by a inboard with the jet drive.

Frank Kreyssig Most of the boats in this video are V drives, driven by propellers. A jet drive is the most inefficient means to drive a boat. Fast boats have props !!!!

Okay what if the boat was converted to outboard powered then what would be total the weight difference be? See my point? All I'm saying is these boats have way more engine than boat. I'm a big fan of all fastboats especially offshore,those boats have a package weight of 1350 lbs w/o blower per engine. Btw you forgot the headers, they add weight too. Still the V;drive boats has one hellava power to weight ratio. 2200pounds w/driver and fuel and1200 to1700 hp on pump gas.

I loved the video and the sounds hot V-8 engines, can I ask WHY there is the talk about how and why outboards are better at the beginning? Thanx for the reply, in reference to #1 shaft angle. Outdrive can correct that at the expense of adding weight. WTF! These boats are way too dangerous for me! I'll stick to my pussy outboard only because its affordable! Love the sound of these v-drive boats and I love to see them run! BTW I notice none of the boats have fighterjet canopies.
