What causes so much cracking and can it be avoided doing it differently?

I honestly don't have an a single answer on cracking and how to avoid it from happening. cracking is usually caused by a combination of things. Prolonged exposure under direct sunlight will weaken the clear and the extreme heat from the sun can cause the clear to split or pull apart . Also fiberglass laid down in the 70s and 80s after years of stress and flexing doesn't help much either. all you can do is grind it out, fill it and try to keep it covered when not in use. If a crack looks like its deep in the glass fibers, it might need additional fiberglass on the bottom underside of the cracking area to add additional strength. In the end some cracks never come back and some won't go away. hope this helps. thanks for watching!!!
