the McDonald's coffee lawsuit was different though. iirc the coffee machine was broken or something and was brewing coffee way too hot and they just didn't bother to fix it. the coffee was so hot it melted the lady's genitals; her labia fused to her thigh and required skin grafts. in her lawsuit all she wanted was her medical bills covered, but she was awarded a lot more because McDonald's knew this was a problem, had been fined for this previously, and decided the fines were cheaper than adjusting their coffee temp.

Haven't seen someone mention this in the comments yet, but I want it to be known that the original plaintiff in the McDonald's "hot coffee'" lawsuit, Stella Liebeck, was a 79-year-old woman that suffered THIRD-DEGREE BURNS ON HER PELVIS and had to be hospitalized for 8 days to get extensive skin grafts. McDonald's knew they were serving their coffee at too hot of a temperature but refused to do anything about it or initially settle with her. She was opening the coffee to add cream and sugar in a parked car with no cupholders (1989 Ford Probe). It's not directly mentioned in the clip but thought something needed to be said here since this is what everyone thinks about when they hear about a hot coffee lawsuit.
@alexaonther0x7 ай бұрын
Thank you for clarifying. I admit, when I first heard about that lawsuit I thought it was someone just trying to cash in but I'm happy I know the background now
@sydneybird24624 ай бұрын
@@alexaonther0x The smear campagin of that poor woman in the media/on social media was entirely otechestrated by the McDonald's PR team, too. I disagree with this stance. The hosts will obviously be biased in favor of the person being mistreated or against malicious behavior being displayed. They also only share their views with the guests AFTER the experiment is already over. I love John but his approach is arguably more problematic. He allows ignorant ass people to explain their reactions and make little effort to share the perspective of the “victim.” HOW does this approach teach the participants anything? If the participant’s views are rooted in bigotry, ignorance, or discrimination, they deserved to be judged and clearly need someone to educate them. If that makes the participants uncomfortable… then the purpose of the show is being fulfilled.

Nuggets come from a deep fry, and that can be really bloody hot (~200 degrees / ~400 in fahrenheit for you Americans). That's on the parents to be honest. Deep fried food should not be served at a temperature at which it is save to play with it. We can't all be eating lukewarm food just because some parents don't watch their kids.
