A great fishing trip to Hot Creek Ranch in Mammoth Lakes California. We stopped in Bishop on HWY 395 at the Mountain Light Gallery and then the Laws Railroad museum. Then some fishing on the Upper Owens and off to Hot Creek Ranch.

I'll be taking a trip in September to Hot Creek and will be doing some fly fishing. I'm from New York, and it's a long trip (that is not actually a flyfishing trip unfortunately) but I wanted to get the best out of such a great river. Do you have any tips for fishing this area during the early fall --sept. 5th (Kind of dry flies to use, where to go, etc.)? Thanks and appreciate any feedback.

Cool video and story line. Funny how fly fishing has now become about numbers. Some of the comments posted are interesting to say the least. The way I see it, I don't fly fish to get numbers. Don't get me wrong if numbers come awesome, but I don't go on the water with that mentality. If I wanted numbers I would carry a bunch of crickets. I think you're video captured a lot of what fly fishing is about, challenge, friendship and overall experience on the water. Great job.

And you say you have fished Hot Creek Ranch and catch over 50 fish all the time? I have to hand to you...you are the best fisherman I've ever heard of. Now on the Owens I've had 40 fish single days...on the fly. But never at the Ranch and go every year in Nov. Can you tell me what fly and size you're using...I'll get the manager to carry them. I'm sure he'd like to know also.

The Ranch IS catch-and-release , not lay them in the grass for a pix , not lay them in the net on the bank for a pix ........CATCH AND RELEASE !!!!!!!!

Fun stuff! looks like the fish were rising to chironomid or mayfly emergers because they were sipping off the top. What was the hatch in 2:40

Thanks. I guess that is what I was saying...I had a great time because of the people I went with, the area and the fishing. It was tuff to see people catch many more then I in the same creek. Just shows how much I had to learn about the fly fishing. BTW...I do a little better now.

It's bad luck to fish with a camera on your head.

I don't fish the ranch.. nor Hot creek very often anymore. But I've had a bunch of 100 fish days on the section right above the ranch, and right below it. Spots like HC Ranch are overrated..but it's good that they offer fishing to those that aren't that good at it and need someone to tell them where to cast. What flies? Toss'd Olive Matukas with a red head... best fly in the sierra. As for the sarcasm in your reply, i get it. ..but 1 fish in a trip is pretty sad...15 fish would be sad.

this video doesn't make the ranch look good

Sorry, but if i only caught 1 fish in the sierras over 2 days I'd quit fishing forever. I've yet to catch under 50 fish a weekend...and those are the slow weekends up there. The worst part is you're fishing Hot Creek, the waters with the most trout per mile than anywhere in the sierra. You should be killin' it.

Dude, you are a joker. 50 fish on a slow weekend. Ok!
