One of my green-ish yellow plasma recipes for regular sized models is to base coat with white, then another coat of Averland Sunset, then wash with Hexwraith Flame. When it's dry get a mix of thinned down white and yellow oil paint, doesn't really matter which brand, then carefully apply a flow along the bottom of those coils. I hope this helps for anyone looking for a easier solution!

Good one! I started doing glowy effects just after being inspired by you in trying to emulate your Sandstone Necrons... If you have the time to let it dry over two to three hours: Try Oil-paint pin wash with White. Also for plasma and fire effects... A soft White drybrush of regular (or glaze) paint over... And any Fluor color over. It glows like a C'Tan!

I've tried several techniques for plasma effects, and drybrush beats all the others when it comes to speed and finish. Reasonable finish but great speed. A white base, then tesseract or some other glowy paint, then white diluted with medium on the bottom, then successive coats of careful drybrush with a small makeup brush (very fine bristles, less of a chalky effect) is the best looking quick solution.

As a pratchett kid who grew up on Discworld from around '95 to the legend himself passing, I approve this sponsor segment! The first couple books aren't really worth reading as a new fan. They're great but you can really tell thar he was still finding his feet as a novelist and very much still developing the personality of both the world and its characters. Even though it features characters from other books I'd still MASSIVELY recommend interesting times. It's one of Rincewind's best outings. Reaper Man is great for getting to know death in a shorter format, or if you're feeling like something longer then you can't go wrong with Hogfather. What I love about TP is his clear love for England. Warts and all. He injects the Discworld with SO much of the irony and sarcasm of the best English wit. And his lore is utterly STUFFED with British folklore. Even at 35 years old, after reading his books for pushing 30 years, and owning every DW adjacent book he's printed (including a signed DW Companion) I'm STILL not even CLOSE to getting bored with the incredible world he created.

The way i do my plasma coils is a little more work, but i think it looks pretty great. I just base coat it pure white and then thinly glaze my colour on the top parts, shying away from the corners where the coils meet the gun, and repeating once again in a smaller circle. Then doing a slightly stronger highlight across all the coils, then another but staying away from the corners, then a final highlight darker highlight at the edges of the coils section.

Nice entry to the works of Pterry, just something to keep in mind: some of his work plays with the medium itself, so I don't know if some of the sub-notes and puns work as well in audio form as they do in written form (Pyramids springs to mind as a good example of puns that you might only notice when you say it out loud after trying to get through the weird spellings of words from Djel).

Honestly, I never got into discworld. My experiences were more the "johnny and the.." series and good omens. Also, this may be controversial, but I dont think this technique scales down very well for infantry. The white should be half way up the plasma coils, with the cooler parts either side of it (top and bottom respectively). Nevertheless, a great video as usual.

Pratchett's kind of hard to get into uninitiated because his early discworld novels are pretty rough, so the whole thing really isnt compelling if you start (like most people would) chronologically - you can really tell the concept of the world hadnt really concretized in his head yet so its mostly just "haha fantasy trope parody." "Guards! Guards!" really is one of the best novels to start with despite being the eighth book in the series.
@johanness.82732 жыл бұрын
Eben pratchetts good friend Gaiman said trat the Early novels Were just „collections of jokes and mostly not good ones“. I worship „guards guards“ but could not for the life of me finish „colour of magic“

I’ve also heard the suggestion to start with a character, not a with a particular book. The witches are a good example, as is Carrot, Vimes or Death.

I'd pick "Mort" over "Guards! Guards!" - and I think the City Watch books really work better starting from "Men At Arms". Massive Pratchett fan here, but I think he often hit his stride with a given series on the second book of each series rather than the first (Men At Arms for the Watch, Witches Abroad for the witches, Reaper Man for Death, Hogfather for Susan, Making Money for Moist Von Lipwig, etc.)
@evanlindsey11002 жыл бұрын
I started with the first two Pratchett novels (after finding out about the comic adaptation of the first novel), and enjoyed them immensely. With a few exceptions, I read most of the series in order as I found out about them, although a few eluded me for a few years. Discworld has few different main storylines that allowed Pratchett to tell different types of stories. Those were the Misadventures of Rincewind the Wizzard (a bit of a failure with magic, but quite clever when the chips are down), Death (and later his granddaughter, Susan Death), The Witches of Lancre, The Unseen University, The Ankh-Morpork City Guard, and the Revitalization of Ankh-Morpork. There's a number of one shot stories, and a few two parters, but even those had worldbuilding and new characters to plots that added elements to later novels. Basically, if there was something that Pratchett wanted to write about, then he would adapt that concept to the Discworld.

Best Discworld book? Either _Feet of Clay_ (although you need to read about a dozen books as background) or _Small Gods_ (which got my wife into Discworld). _Colour of Magic_ and _The Light Fantastic_ are early installment weirdness; _Equal Rites_ and _Mort_ are the first ones that read like Discworld(tm). Nice job on the plasma effect BTW. Looks a sight better than my 'dull at the edge, highlight in the centre' efforts.
