Airbrushes are as good as the purpose you use them for. I predominantly use them for just base paints, basing, large flat panels (vehicles and Titans) and larger effects. A cheaper airbrush typically is awful, this one seems ok. Either way, for under 10 Euro (basically $10 USD) this is pretty amazing. Side note: don't go thinking you can detail paint with an airbrush. The pros make it look easy, but just like it takes most of us a year+ just to get comfortable and adept at painting details with a paint brush, an airbrush is the same if not more difficult. But again for larger painting and/or effect painting such as light sources, shadows, animations (glow of a plasma gun), etc, they're fantastic! :]

The major criticism for these airbrushes I've noticed is you won't get a consistent pressure for long periods of time, I'd recommend people use them for around 15 minutes a time and then recharge, you'll notice the air pressure begin to decrease after 30 minutes of constant use
@joel6376Ай бұрын
You can leave them connected on USB, charging while using. idk if it extends the battery life or simply stops the battery (mostly) draining to where this is an issue. Is it good for the battery? Probably not, but I don't need a wireless airbrush specifically so even if it does over long term the benefit from being able to spray for the amount of time I need without taking a break more than offsets any damage caused.

Also, make sure you know what is in your paints, if you happen to use something with enamel or acrylic pigment but don't check the binding/coating material you can find you wont clean or thin or whatever with these. If that happens stop until you find more info on your paints. Brands like Spaz-Stix have amazing airbrush paints that are extremely thin out the bottle and have some amazing utility, but their binding chems are a Laquer, so you'll need to clean with laquer cleaner for deep cleaning, but protecting your airbrush by running extra Flow Aide, or assembly/protection airbrush oil through the brush after a deep clean means if you clean immediately you often can still use standard cleaners because the laquer gets washed off the oil, not the metal.

What a perfect video to pop up in my suggestions! I got a cheaper (£60) airbrush from Amazon just after Christmas with an aim to use it (initially) for priming minis to move away from using Citadel rattle cans and i have to say, the worry about getting started using it has halted my painting for months now. I popped it out last night after getting some Vallejo primer bottles and, while I got a good cost of black on my test minis, the grey i got to do a zenithal prime with wouldn't come out of the nozzle and led to a bunch of frustration. This is a great video for just step by step looking at how to go about prepping different colours and i now see that i was likely putting too much paint in the hopper and not thinning it. Tonight I'll try less paint with a dash of the cleaner i bought as you're using here! Brilliant stuff!

Only downside to low pressure is that they tend to clog a little more easily than usual. Great to practice, but it will probably lead to a bigger investment if you like airbrushing.
@SeanHoltzman Жыл бұрын
@organicod2438 True in some environments, If you have very dry and hot air like I do living in desert and no A/C then it's actually better and won't splatter/gum up. Even then, thinning down paints a bit more and making sure to use some airbrush Flow Aide /should/ fix any gumming. Hot ambient (85+°F) air or no air tank attached to compressor so compressor always running = ~5psi lower than "generally recommended," and then really dry ambient air is usually another ~5psi from from recommended. Moisture in the ambient is very good BUT you want dry through the airbrush so a moisture filter between tank and hose is needed in high humidity areas, but mostly the problem with moisture in airbrush line is water spattering, uneven air flow so spray patter gets messed up, or in extreme cases paint on needle tip can migrate through micro bubbles and start to clog the air-flow area under the air cap in a variety of ways, but generally that isn't a "fix with more air pressure" problem because more air pressure means more compressor ontime which increases heat and moisture in-line, hence the need for a moisture trap and why you lower PSI under the prior mentioned conditions to prevent paint drying out too quickly

Awesome video, and a perfect way to show you can amend your workflow to accomodate the tool, rather than having to feel like you can't do it at all unless you spend more than you can afford. I have a cheapie with a USB compressor that I used for pretty much exactly what you just did, and it built up my confidence that when I bought a compressor and a better quality airbrush I wouldn't ruin them and I knew better what I was doing. I actually have one of these airbrushes, got it for my birthday the other day. It's my first airbrush. Haven't really made use of it yet, but it seems pretty decent. The pre-set handle doesn't work initially, but if you cut about a 5.5-6mm (make sure you use flush cutters and just adjust the length as needed) piece of 3D printer filament and pop it inside the actual silver threaded piece, you can get that flow control limiter to work like it should, limiting how far you can pull the trigger. Edit: When calibrating the piece of filament, make sure you take the black piece off, screw the knob all the way in, and then start screwing the black piece onto the brush; you can easily tell whether you've cut it short enough or not without damaging the nozzle.

Using a steady-state high-compression fan instead of a compressor is the real trick. It's like the difference between running your computer off of a power conditioning UPS, and just plugging it into a power strip. If a computer has a really good power supply, and a really good motherboard, it doesn't make much of a difference. If you're running cheap hardware like a Dell, you can end up with all sorts of random problems. Having nice smooth air flow, will make even the cheapest airbrush preform adequately. I airbrushed with the autolock 27 psi airbrush for about a year before the button on the compressor went out and I used it A LOT. I contacted them through amazon and the replaced it within a week and I continued using that one for about 10 months. I decided to try a "real" airbrush set up, but after about 5 minutes, the noise of a big compressor (trust me I tried 3 different compressors), was too much after the convenience of these little hand held ones. I can even walk over to the sink and rinse it all out in like 15 seconds! So, I returned all of that, but kept my iwata eclipse brush and bought another battery powered airbrush, but this time got the imyyds brand. This airbrush had a 32psi compressor and a 1/8th npt thread so I could attach my iwata eclipse to it. needless to say, it absolutely crushes it when it comes to airbrushing. The airbrushes that come with these are 'fine', but after you become more proficient, you'll notice the limitations. The biggest I experienced was the concentricity of the nozzle and needle relative to the hole in the nozzle cap, basically they're off center from one another, so you don't get a uniform airflow around the needle. As a newer airbrusher, this doesn't matter, but like I said, as you become more proficient, it becomes more noticeable. All in all, I recommend this style of airbrush to anyone, it's awesome. Good luck with your decision!
@boblemand Жыл бұрын
I've got an autolock aswell, but I find it clogging up a lot spattering blobs of paint onto the model before the real flow starts. It's possible to work around it, but i would be nice not to have to start off model and such things. Do you know if it's possible to attach a hose and another airbrush to that compressor? Or can you by any chance send links to your current setup?
@GS_37 Жыл бұрын
@@boblemand I had that too, I found the "perfect" paint consistency helped, but that's not always easy to do. I found that the nozzle has to clog just slightly with paint over time and you'll notice the needle doesn't protrude as far out and that's when I'd get the best spray, but that window only lasted so long. Also, take a look directly on at the needle, see if you have a uniform gap around around the needle. If not, loosen the nozzle cap a fraction of a turn to see if you can get the gap uniform around the needle and nozzle, that will help your spray pattern. Unfortunately, the autolock seems to have a unique thread pitch to their compressor. I wasn't able to find an adapter or thread an airbrush on, since most are 1/8 NPT. This was why I switched to the 32psi imyyds compressor; to have increased air pressure for spattering and a 1/8th NPT thread to use a higher quality airbrush. The "5 psi" seems to make a big difference. I can't comment on the airbrush portion though, because I've never used it. I switched it for the iwata eclipse to have the best of both worlds. I also purchased the army painter air paints set and everything works well (but only if you lay a zenithal down first). www.amazon.com/dp/B096B22YCB?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder-t1_k0_1_6&=&crid=1GZ0C090TRX3G&sprefix=imyyds&th=1 www.amazon.com/Iwata-Eclipse-Hp-Cs-Value-Cleaner/dp/B00695CY54/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=iwata+eclipse+hp-cs&qid=1691077459&s=arts-crafts&sprefix=iwata+eclipse%2Carts-crafts%2C133&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.d977788f-1483-4f76-90a3-786e4cdc8f10 www.amazon.com/Army-Painter-Warpaints-Air-Mega/dp/B09BDBW8SK/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=army+painter+airbrush+paint&qid=1691077482&s=arts-crafts&sprefix=army+painter+air%2Carts-crafts%2C128&sr=1-9

Mine came with four replacement O-rings and it was obvious where the two black ones belonged. However, I can't find the small, transparent ones in the airbrush and I don't know what they are for. Do you have any clues?

Thanks, this helped a lot; being new to the hobby I will try this kind of airbrush first. Stupid question; how long did you wait before applying the 2nd primer coat? Have a nice day!
@SpensPainting Жыл бұрын
I’m so glad it helped! No stupid questions here friend, usually about 20 minutes is long enough to wait but if you have a hair dryer with a hot setting you can give it a blast with that and reduce it to about 3 or 4 minutes

Thanks for the great video! I've never used enamel washes, but looks solid. I've also never used Temu, but you deem it safe enough to use?
@SpensPainting Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Enamel washes are super useful, I love them for adding extra definition to models. Temu seems safe enough, I’ve only made one purchase on there: this airbrush! But everything arrived safely and in time

Can you run it from mains as I’ve heard some do with these cheap brushes due the battery and pressure doesn’t last long

How is the longevity of the brush? Does it still work fine?

It’s still working fine, but I don’t use it too often now. I tend to just use it for enamels or something really quick and simple

Complete newbie to airbrush, if airbrushing minis into a box do you still end up with paint fleks everywhere? Reason I ask, a previous project of a guitar body was rattle canned and OMG there was dried and dusty paint everywhere, even behind me and yet I only sprayed in 1 direction.
@SpensPainting Жыл бұрын
Nah, airbrushing into a box catches the vast majority of paint although you may get some paint dust on surfaces over time, but nothing that regular cleaning won’t prevent

Is enamel paint much better than Nuln Oil ? As it looks more hassle to use
@SpensPainting4 ай бұрын
Enamel has a much lower surface tension so it's a lot easier to get it to panel line compared to nuln oil, but if you find nuln oil works for you then that's great!

This is a fantastic video for people wanting to get into airbrushing, but that are either too put off by the price or the nature of using them. What a great addition to someone's starter kit. Tbh this would help massively to anyone basecoating, having trouble getting a smooth finish with a metalic. Or adding any weathering to your models as at that price you would be silly not to give it a go! I have been a miniature painter since 1996. Started using an airgun in mid 2010s and have never looked back. I use an Infinite from Iwata Gilvadez which cost a fair chunk of change. But it is superb!

Weird the single action is paint flow rather than air… (normally single action are fixed mixture and you can modulate the airflow).

Do you have to thin the paints when you put them in the airbrush?
@SpensPainting Жыл бұрын
It depends on the paints. Most "air" paints like Vallejo Model Air can be run through the airbrush straight from the bottle, however because the pressure isn't the best on these smaller compressors then a touch of tinner can help them run a lot smoother. Non-air paints do need to be thinne

I tried a cheap one like these to try out airbrushing. Liked it enough but it was finicky as all get out. Got an actual compressor setup and it was night and day. So much easier and more enjoyable. I think people who are good at using airbrushes already can do good things with these battery based airbrushes but I wouldn't recommend them for beginners

Thanks for this review - I have a dual action airbrush with compressor I got a while ago but never really started using it because of the setup. Would it be worth picking this up for the small compressor? Just wondering if it's a standard thread size and whether it would work with a dual action

Unfortunately the thread on this one isn’t the standard thread size so you’d need some kind of adaptor to get it to work with a different airbrush

Nice video, really enjoyed it. Quick question, how noisy is the usb compressor when you’re using it? I have a proper plug in air compressor that I use for airbrushing, but it’s a noisy bugger! If the usb compressor is quiet I might give it a whirl so I can pain without getting told off by the wife!

It’s a lot quieter than proper plug in compressor for sure! I wouldn’t say quiet but not where near as loud

Is that enamel wash similar to tamiya panel liner?
@SpensPainting Жыл бұрын
Similar! I’ve not used Tamiya liner personally so don’t know how it behaves but with enamel washes the benefit is being able to easily remove excess with thinner afterwards. You might be able to do that with Tamiya liner too but I’m not sure

Hi, my current aircompressor broke and im looking for a cheap replacement because i like using my higher quality airbrush. do you think i could just use the air compressor that comes with the airbrush as an air pump. will it fit on a normal airbrush valve/ hose.

This was a fantastic video, airbrushing is a step ive been wanting to take for a while but i just don't have the space and a friend of mine has recently just bought a double action trigger version of this compact type airbrush and i mist admit it's got me considering options. It was nice to see the results you could achieve for easily getting mass tabletop infantry done. Can I ask a nooby question, why would you use airbrush cleaner in place of airbrush thinner, you said it was okay to use either or in the video and i dont know why, the airbrush cleaner changes the surface tension of the paint? Is that what thinners do?

I dont have room for ventilators etc. If it stick to water based acrylics do you reckon its ok to use an airbrush like this at a desk if I paint into a box or something?

I bought this airbrush and it never worked after I cleaned it. Even when I got a new one from the customer service it had the same problem again. The paint was causing bubbles inside of the paint pot and didn't come out at all. I know that this normally means that I didn't clean it well enough but I really don't think that this is what caused the problem because I cleaned it very carefully before using it again. Do you have any idea what I could have done wrong? Is there something special I need to watch out for when cleaning it or putting it back together? Thanks in advance
