Hot Glue sueding and restringing a BJD doll

It was about time to try hot glue sueding and restringing my first BJD doll. And I got lucky as my perfect candidate for this process recently arrived well and kicky ☺ Yes we are talking about DF-A Chubby Baby Leilei.
I named her Iuki 💖
Honorable mentions:
1. It's my first time doing this, my method is not necessary correct but in my case was efficient.
2. Depending on how tight are your dolls joints, when sueding usually you have to apply a very thin layer of glue. Mine was...not that thin, but as you may see through the video I kept testing if the freshly glued bits enter properly in their sockets.
3.Usually in the restringing process you can change entirely the elastic with one in the length of your choice. I used the one that came with the doll but since the string was too tight I added an extra piece.
4. There are proper ways to restring a doll, this is not one of those or a tutorial by any means ☺
5. Just enjoy and always have fun with your dolls!

Mine got a new home meanwhile, I was not able to accommodate her size and heaviness. But somehow I miss her and I still have a ComiBaby head that needs a body. I'm thinking at the Myou chubby baby body ☺I may try again next year to accommodate this size. They are very beautiful and the bodies on the bigger size, therefore easier for us to sew detailed clothes for them. Thank you for reminding me this, this babies do not have too many fans I guess. We have to appreciate them more 💖

Thank you! ☺ Just gather your courage and try it! It seems more difficult than it is and the worse you can do is maybe to assembly it wrong. If you try a couple of times you'll be more comfortable and you will have control over your doll posing and elastic tension 💖

This is wonderful! I just got a Fairy Land Lucywen full set (second hand). She's my first bjd and my holy grail. Both her human body and centaur body are strung too loosely. This gives me courage to attempt to restring and hot glue suede her human body first before I think to attempt her centaur body. Thank you!

Congrats for your first doll family member ☺ Starting a hobby is one of the best moments, especially when a grail is the first! I'm very happy that you found your courage 😊 I would simply say don't be afraid to tinker. BJDs are not as fragile as they seem and besides, it will help you bond, find their nicks and knacks, understand the engineering behind. Hi Younan, thank you so much! The sueding makes quite a difference. She was very tight but unable to stand really well. After this, I discovered a lot more poses, she has an amazing balance and can stand easily on one foot ☺

Where you buy clothes for this size?

At the time when I had her I was not able to buy clothes for her and honestly I did not knew what to go for as she was literally my first doll on the bigger size. Now, looking back and knowing how SD clothes look as size and proportion, I would go with SD13 tops, shorts, skirts. For long pants I think we either have to make them or modify bigger ones. But I do have a question, were you able to find shoes for her? She has a thicker foot than MSDs 😊

Words would be nice… like what kind of glue or glue gun…. And temperature. What was the issue before. I can’t decide if I need to that to my dolls or not …

Hi Rina, thank you so much for your feedback ☺ Her legs were very jumpy at he knee and hip therefore she was not able to be posed properly and it was also difficult to make her stand. The hot glue helped by giving adherence between the joints where the resin was very smooth. Now I'm having an all purpose old glue gun that I'm using for this, nothing special in particular. I use 7mm glue sticks, I do prefer these and I bought them on bulk, no label or brand. I hope it helps and if you need more details you can always reach me, I'm happy to help!

Hi Cassie, she is a DF-A Leilei. She is 1/4 (MSD) big baby in normal pink skin and I have her from Alice's Collections. Unfortunately I did not bonded with her, if you are interested you can adopt mine ☺
