We love this show. It is true that there aren't many Asian families shown on TV shows in North America. This show, though sometimes you could misunderstand that parents are too obstinate and tyrant, successfully reveals how tight family relationship is for them and the conflict is so true that you can't help but laugh. I bet lots of immigrant families share the same generation and cultural gap so maybe that's why this show is widely popular in the US as well as Canada? I didn't know it was Canada show at first. Great making!

it's very popular in Europe too! we've just found out about it. I just finished watching season 1 and it is so relatable for so many people. I'm 26 originally from italy but based in London. the thing you said about the generational gap is so clear also in my family. i love this show..

I think it's very appropriate that Kim's Convenience is a Canadian production, it's relatable and fun to watch for many immigrant families that live here, in a country that encourages diversity and inclusivity. I love it! CBC is really coming out with good shows over the last few years, I hope they keep it up :)

It makes me so sad to know how hard the cast members had to fight for their voices and accurate + respectful portrayals while filming. I hope these stars know that revealing their struggles with scripts/producers/cultural inaccuracies on set is such a helpful and honorable thing to do. Kim's Convenience is absolutely one of my favorite sitcoms. There is so much that I love about this show. For one there are very few references to sex vs a show like Three and half Men. Don't think I've heard one cuss word, and the stories revolve around family and big yes to the fact that it's an intact family. It's a great ensemble cast and funny as heck. Can't wait for sesson 4 to drop.

The things which really help this show be what it is are the relationships between the actors. You can tell that they are close off the screen because it comes through on the screen. That goes for all of the characters in the show not just the Kim family. The other part that makes it work is the clever funny writing of it and the quick cuts. It's a show that moves quickly through it's 22 minutes. It sets the laugh up and then delivers and then it moves to the next scene. The show allows you to see a Korean Canadian family in all its aspects. But not just any family, this family. With all its quirks and idiosyncrasy's. It's fun. Pointed at times. Sometimes daring. It's just a good comedy. Anyone can like it. It's in the mode of Modern Family, Fresh Off The Boat and Blackish in the respect that it takes something foreign to the average person in Canada or US and presents it in an accessible and humorous way.

Sorry, but I don't think this qualifies as a "K drama". 1. Its Canadian. 2. Not all the actors are Korean or of Korean descent. 3. Its in English. It would be like calling say General Hospital a Telenovela if the lead actors were now Mexican-American. its not, its still a regular American style soap opera.

@@Smashmilk and she's OK with the Koreans portrayed in the mainstream K dramas? I'm not OK with that. I have received multiple remarks from people who returned from travelling in Korea "actually only Korean people in TV look like that, in real they're not that at all". So TV is TV, which ever "side" you're on. They are definitely the less represented side and you can tell from how the actors believe in the show, they're Korean. I don't like K drama because of how obsessed they are with looking pretty all the time, even in real life and it sets an impossible and unrealistic standard. I prefer a little bit of rust and dust, and that's why I'm not a K fan.

@@Smashmilk appa, umma and Janet are of Korean descendance, what more do you want lol, a documentary? And it's totally not black face, that's for Africans. Plus besides appa and umma and some other Koreans, no one else speaks Korean in there. It's the equivalent of getting a Swedish actor to play a Dutch character. I'm Malaysian of Chinese descendance, so we can go on all day about Asian representation in western media. I'm not even sure if all Koreans in Korea like their representation in mainstream media.

Been binging the show but why is everyone written like an asshole like E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E! most of the time the problem is solved by coincidence. They don't confront the real problem and in classic sitcom style everything is reset on the next episode.
