I sometimes have to double dip. This was 20 years after the first album, and by the way their laying it down, you'd never know it.. they were just BANGING this one out! What an opener! Tom is just plain on fire. Jesus God what a powerful performance! Dismantles whatever is out TODAY, passing itself off to be hard rock!

;0 and everyone only knows 'em by 'surrender', right?? ;0 lolz!! :) they had a strange thing going back then; most every other track being "super-soft", then "super-hard"... then that transition from the "mostly-hard" "cheap trick" alb, to the "mostly-soft" "in color"... then to the very-mixed "heaven tonight"... and onwards to glory and fame ;0

@@nyokoSalome Budakon and I Want You To Want Me was their breakthrough. Surrender came next...but it was a shame they werent huge by the second album. I dont think the studio versions were the hits...and those first three are perfect. Took a canned, touched up live album to finally get them out of clubs and opening slots. I saw them in a club tthis tour (boxset) and they were smoking like this....which is as good as any version ive ever heard.

Every CT is better live, because they play the hell out of the songs and sometimes the mistakes are what make the performance even better. I continue to go see them year after year and they get better each time. 6-16 "we're all alright " available!!

This was aired the night b-4 Halloween, 1998. How do I REMEMBER that? I was 6 or 7 weeks pregnant at the time sitting in my new rockin' chair watching this live on tv when all of a sudden out of nowhere..in the middle of the song..my belly "felt like it was dancing/kicking to the beat of the music!!" Now, my daughter, who just turned 11 yrs. old last week, saw CT play, with me, on the waterfront, 3rd row, "gauking" at Robin..in 2006..and the next generation will continue the admiration........

I love the focus on Tom from 2:07-2:12, it looks like he's way into the groove. Also, does anyone know the make/type of Robin's guitar? He's been using that one since the early days, and I can't recall seeing any other well known musicians using that kind.

It's nice to see them when they still had the energy to jump around, though in the clubs like Night Gallery, or Thirsty Whale, Nelson jumped around more than this. Back then you couldn't take your eyes off of Rick.

Too bad most sound guys don't know to treat Tom's bass like a guitar with 4 bass strings instead of making it sound like a muddy 4-string through a direct box by rolling all of the mids and highs off. That thing sounds ferocious in person and never sounds good on TV.

I was there that afternoon. Trust me, it didn’t sound quite that good in the audience. Television audio is sweetened quite a bit before it’s aired. 😉 otherwise, this is CT at its peak. They’re struggling wokies in these modern times. Sadly, I’ve not bought anything new since Rockford, and don’t pay to see them live anymore. All things must pass.
@emobile5052 ай бұрын
Wokies? Do you have any examples of that? They do talk about current events once in awhile in interviews but certainly nothing in their music is "woke".
