My good friend George passed away recently and I dearly miss him. We got together every year or so for 45 years. A tremendous person.

Occasionally stopped in at the deuce, in MV, had a beer with him, and some nights he'd play there...always fun, sometimes it got wild.

I've always loved this song! A little Rock History: "Hot Rod Lincoln" is an ANSWER song. --- In the early 50's, there was a song "Hot Rod Race", about a Ford and Mercury havin' a race. The first line of "Hot Rod Lincoln": "Have you heard the story of the 'Hot Rod Race'..." --- In the last verse of "Hot Rod Race", a "Model A" flies by the Ford and Mercury, ending THEIR race, thus, "Hot Rod Lincoln" is about that Model A. --- Red Foley did a good job on 1951's "Hot Rod Race", that you can find on KZbin. --- "Hot Rod Lincoln" was written in 1959 by Charlie Ryan, but another great version of "Hot Rod Lincoln", almost as good as Commander Cody's (R.I.P.), was done by Johnny Bond, with Joe Maphis on guitar, in 1961.

I met Charlie Ryan in 1985 and spent time talking with him in 1989 at the NHRA Northwest Streetrod Nationals in Spokane. The hotrod Lincoln was there and he gave a couple of us rides in it around the fairgrounds. He was a really neat guy. I will always remember that weekend. A family friend donated a seat and some other misc parts when Charlie restored it the previous winter.

I don't know why yt sent me this, 12 years later but I'm happy to see it! People talk about Willie and Snoop, but when George played my friend's club one day during the late 90s he smoked me under the table so hard I had to take a cab. Not even Tommy Chong did that!

Saw them at a bar in Syracuse around 1974, ended up drinking at the bar with the Commander and Lance Dickerson, his drummer. In 1977 I toured with Phoebe Snow and David Bromberg and Lance was Brombergs drummer.

My father's first car was a hot rod model A. After outrunning the cops at 100 miles an hour, that included being shot at, by cutting through the orange and lemon groves ( concrete and asphalt now ), the only trouble he got in was stern lecture, G D it Dale don't you ever do that again. Back in the day when they would allow young punks to make a mistake or two. Prison and thousands of dollars of fines to feed the appetite of the lovers of money power and authority is where he would have ended up today. Never met a human being that never committed a crime. Especially cops and judges and politicians.
