Seeing the inside of that truck brought back a lot of memories. I grew up with a truck just like that one, except it had a 327 with a 3 on the tree. I learned to drive in that truck. If you can drive a 3 on the tree, you can drive anything. I sanded the rusty top of the cab and painted it white with rattle cans. It had the small rear window and I left the flat area around it (where the large window went) green. Looked great for a couple of years, till to started bleeding white down the rest of the cab. I hauled a lot of tobacco on that old truck.

@jtj_22656 жыл бұрын
Its broken and cant be fixed... update concluded
@overyonderjustapiece6 жыл бұрын
The company that makes the ignition magnets for the flywheel has to make new magnets that are going to keep their magnetism at higher temperatures. That is what is wrong with the dragster. Until they get the new magnets, the dragster is pretty much a dead horse, unless they go back to the stock flywheel instead of the billet unit.
@seanathanq6 жыл бұрын
Ed H I feel like they should go back to the stock unit for the timing being,they can still work out the kinks with it that way

That's awesome my father has a 400 small block. It's in a 98 Silverado and we rebuilt it top to bottom. We have it strait piped and a towing cam. We also converted it to fuel Injection which woke the engine up. We use it for hauling since a 400 small block is a torque monster. I love that engine but not the weak bottom ends they are known for! Also we get around 18-23 mpg

Had that same setup in a 77 gmc when I was 14, got 14 MPG with a holley 650 when I could keep my foot out of it. At 14 that was rare
@upsidedowndog12566 жыл бұрын
Higher compression pistons would give closer to 18mpg with that combination.
@matthewcleaver24936 жыл бұрын
upside downdog I’m pretty sure higher compression pistons have nothing to do with gas mileage. If anything higher compression means you need to spend more on higher octane fuel
@upsidedowndog12566 жыл бұрын
Matthew Cleaver Higher compression increases volumetric efficiency, allowing things like the heads, intake and cam become more efficient. The best and easiest way to better mileage and power is to increase compression ratio to just below the point of needing higher octane fuel. In this case 10:1 would do nicely. 10.5:1 better power but sketchy on octane needs in SBC. 11:1 and higher buy race gas.
@philtripe6 жыл бұрын
only if the engine was designed for higher compression...Mathew is right, high compression without changing everything else would just make it ping all the time...the sbc 400 works best at low compression

Pretty much every mechanic I know, their cars are always in the verge of breaking down. I never really understood it. You have the skills to fix it up right, but they never seem to do it. I guess I could be a matter of always working on cars and not having the energy or drive to work in their own rigs.
@overyonderjustapiece6 жыл бұрын
That's like a computer tech actually owning NO computers. They are around them and fix them and deal with them SO MUCH at work, they wasn't nothing to do with them at home.
@XxArkaiKxX6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. When you're an honest mechanic with a good reputation, the work comes in. 6 to 7 days a week, 12-14 hour days for most owner/mechanics. No real time for your own stuff.

thermodynamics bruh, if an engine outputs x amount of hp it creates x amount of heat plus some from friction. Are you just uneducated or what?
@robburdack43616 жыл бұрын
yeah that dose not account for airflow into the front of the radiator or loads at any given time ...... its impossible to class a radiator to any given horsepower because there is to many variations in wich could differ per use let alone many engines heating differently considering an open deck and close deck wont heat the same per hp ..... radiator size dose not match horsepower .... so no your idea of power v heat isnt entirely correct ..... i can make 700 hp wet and it wont get near as hot as if i run it lean just the same as it will change depending fuel and even carby / injection type
