Never noticed when I watched this years ago, but they used Folland Gnats for the film, a long-obsolete 1950s British trainer/fighter that was never operated by the Americans and was most definitely never a naval aircraft. I guess there were a lot of them cheaply for rent! Such a great film and Admiral Benson is one of the funniest characters ever in film.
