Top Secret is the underrated ZAZ movie with a devoted cult following. It is Val Kilmer’s film debut and also features Omar Sharif and Peter Cushing. It’s a Cold War spy movie spoof. A major plot point requires a passing familiarity with Blue Lagoon, otherwise it pretty much stands on its own.

That actors name is Lloyd Bridges & to us older folks he's considered one of the great actors of our generation. Although the shocker for us was, Lloyd Bridges was known for dramatic work. We didn't know he could do comedy. (There were several dramatic actors dropped in to shock us, it worked) & Both actors, Beau & Jeff Bridges are his sons. The sons did a film together called "The Fabulous Baker Boys" w/Michelle Pfeiffer. 👍

This movie takes aim not only at Top Gun but also a lot of other movies from the 80s and early 90s. The hut scene in the beginning was from the movie Dances with Wolves. The piano singing scene was from the movie The Fabulous Baker Boys which ironically stars Lloyd Bridges 2 sons Beau and Jeff Bridges. The food sex scene is from the movie 9 1/2 Weeks. A few more I may have missed but you’ll get the jokes better if you’ve seen those other movies. Hot Shots 2 takes aim at other movies too but I won’t spoil that one for you guys

Naval aviators live by their callsigns both in the air and on the ground. Sad thing is "dead meat" could actually be a naval callsign if the officer had a bunch of prior close calls that had it been any worse ended with a fatality. Callsigns in the navy tend to come from 3 different things. They can be based on an officer's hometown or last name, they can be based on an officer's personality but most commonly a new USN aviator will earn his or her call sign after suffering an embarrassing situation. In the TOPGUN movie Pete Mitchell earned his callsign of "Mavrick" based on the type of personality he had. I'd bet good $$ on how "Goose" got his and it was most likely that he had a bad encounter with an angry goose that ended up chasing him around in front of some of his buddies. In the second movie his son gets the call sign of "Rooster" because he liked to sit up on a perch like a hawk waiting for that perfect moment to move in. He often would sit on that roost for far longer than he should have which could not only cost him his life but also very well could end up ending the life of his other squadron members flying the mission with him.

The "sensual singing on the piano" is a parody of The Fabulous Baker Boys (a movie of the time with Jeff Bridges and his brother Beau Bridgers - incidentally their father plays Admiral Benson here). The "sex involving food stuff" scene is a parody of 9 1/2 weeks, a very famous hit movie from the late 80s, with Mickey Rourke (then a hearthtrob) and Kim Bassinger (then considered the ultimate Hollywood bombshell). And of course Admiral Benson is a parody of 2021-2023 era president Joe Biden.

The scene with Ramada in the mask cutting metal is an allusion to a similar scene in Flashdance where Jennifer Beals opens a similar mask after welding.

speaking of Brady Bunch, the 90s remake movies are pretty funny. Something to consider for future reactions!

Mail Man is an even worse call sign when you realize that around the time of this movie’s release, there were a LOT of post office shootings - it’s when the phrase “going postal” was coined. Also, the love scene in front of the refrigerator is taken from a movie called 9 1/2 weeks.
