Affleck told Kevin Hart that he thinks of himself as a director because he prefers being behind the camera. Ben Affleck admits he's "a little shy" and prefers to be behind the camera.
During the Season 4 premiere of Kevin Hart's Hart to Heart, Affleck, 51, opened up about life in the spotlight, noting how people's reactions to seeing him versus his wife Jennifer Lopez in public differ. Hart, 44, began by asking the Ayer actor whether he prefers working behind or in front of the camera, and Affleck was quick to point out that while he considers himself a "director," he's "a little shy."
"I don't like the spotlight either," he continued. "So people look at me and think, 'This guy is angry all the time,' because someone has a camera and is pointing it in my face."
"You can take my picture at a club or at a premiere or wherever. I don't care about my wife. Go ahead. Knock yourself out. "I'm not aware of you guys," he said, adding, "Kids, that's a separate issue."
Affleck has three children, Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52. He's also stepfather to Lopez's 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with her ex Marc Anthony. During the conversation, Affleck noted that fans express their affection for him and Lopez in different ways.
“We went somewhere with [Jennifer] - I don’t remember because she’s so famous and she’s the one creating this - people love her. And she represents something that's really important to people," Affleck explained.
"[For me], people say, 'Hey, I love your movies,' and they're like, 'Oh my God!' R-R-R-O-O! - he exclaimed. "This is amazing, you know what I mean?"
The Good Will Hunting star shared an anecdote about Lopez being promptly mobbed by a fan while walking through Times Square with his family of seven during the holidays.
"We get out of the car, we're getting ready for the show, and I'm like, 'Damn, I'm gonna be late, I have to walk a block and a half'" (to Lopez). He's like, 'Okay, she didn't say anything nasty,'" he said.
We get out with her, all the kids, through Times Square, and the s--- was like f---in’ bananas,\'“ he recalled. \"I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ There was a lady, she was smoking weed, in a full purple skintight suit-she’s a heavy lady-and she starts running backwards filming, going ‘J-LO!!’ Like a herald. Then everybody's moving on, tourists or whatever.
Then I move on. We have five kids, me and Jen, and now it feels like hundreds of people screaming," he continued. By the way, at this time, don't forget to behave as if everything is organized. "
"completely. Yeah, that's why I have a slutty look on my face," Affleck joked.
It's unclear when this episode of Hart to Hart was filmed, but Affleck and Lopez's marriage has been on edge recently, with Lopez vacationing in Italy without Affleck this week and their shared Beverly Hills mansion being put up for sale. The latter two attended Samuel's graduation together in early June.
