I been making maple syrup for over 10 years and it never gets old just the smell of the sweet sap boiling... I enjoy making my own maple syrup... I even make extra so I can give them as gifts... And I use steamer pans as well but I use 55 gallon drum... And to make the process go faster get extra pails to replace the full ones so you can take the full One's inside to thaw out ...

My Dad used to have a camp in the woods surrounded by sugar maples. For years he tapped trees, gathered sap & boiled the sap on a huge stove in the camp woodshed. Much hard work as you know, Biata . My siblings, cousins and their kids loved to have Thanksgiving dinner cooked on the camp wood stove, be hauled behind the tractor in the wood hauling wagon and everyone had a great time. The experiences you are providing for your daughter build character and great life long memories ! Kudos ! 👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇❤

My mouth is watering for pure homemade maple syrup. Brought back a lot of memories of my childhood in northern Maine when we would tap hundreds of trees and make it a neighborhood project making maple syrup. That was the way of the farming communities, we helped each other and shared in the fruits of our labor. Great video. Oh, your daughter looks so cute with her missing front teeth, and she is growing so fast.

I have to miss this season, it's just not in the cards, but I've gathered up everything I need for next year so it's all ready to go. I can't wait.
@andyi9001 Жыл бұрын
Just curious, have you thought of tapping other tree species on your land? From the video I see you have birch trees, which can be tapped as well. Granted you need much more (>2x) sap from birch to produce the same amount of syrup as a maple tree so it may not be worth your time. Fun video and enjoy your tasty syrup!
@SimpleLivingwithBiata Жыл бұрын
Hey! We totally could do birch syrup and I’ve thought of it before but I’m a bit scared about it taking double the amount of time haha! At this rate I’m only boiling 1.5L to 2L of sugar maple sap each day I’m at the property because it takes so long lol!

PLEASE don’t misunderstand my question. Is that a pond I keep seeing or a lake and do you plan on cleaning up around the bank?
@robertgraves3215 Жыл бұрын
yeah that's definitely on my bucket list (pun intended) . First time I've actually seen the whole process. My friend's neighbor in VT said he preffered burning pine because it burns so hot , but I assume that means constant stoking. I'd love to try birch, black walnut , and hickory syrup also. Someday. Life is way boring here, I've been soldering various electronic things, and have kill-trapped three mice in one day. The Havahart thing takes too much effort. Do you like the kindling splitter? What I love about that is you can use it sitting down, next to the fire , add the headphones...
@SimpleLivingwithBiata Жыл бұрын
Haha too funny! It’s so fun to make. I love burning a combo of maple and cedar! The cedar is so easy to get going but the maple burns longer. Definitely requires more stoking though! I love the kindling splitter. Much safer than splitting kindling with just an axe!

And using the electricity there and you know not having to pay for your travel trailer to be somewhere else
