The problem with disc golf is it’s mostly public parks with no room for parking and amenities.

Except they took away the one thing I truly loved about idlewild and that was the island golf greens. It kind of took away the joy of watching idlewild

Courses on tour need to implement multiple pin positions throughout the tourney. Having a longer, or tighter, or sketchier pin position on Sunday is exciting. Disc golf isn't ball golf, but that is definitely something that needs to be borrowed and implemented. I think Brodie mentioned this at one point talking about a par 3 at Jonesboro or DDO or something (350 or so across the ravine on a big hill, hay bails all around). He said "just move it to the left or right on Sunday and bring the OB into play. Easy to and more fun and exciting." I'd also love to see more risk/reward eagle-able par 4s and 5s on 17 and 18. Makes for some exciting finishes.

Hole 11 at Blue ribbon pines In MN, par 4 520 FT, slight dogleg right 10 foot tunnel off of the tee, bends to the right around 300’ pond on the left at 300’, after the hole turns right, 220’ remains, another pond sits 10’ ft from the water

North Idaho. Caliber or Motherlode just north of Sandpoint. Legitimately hard and scoreable at the same time. Chris Clemmons and Hannah Hyunh will vouch for the technicality. Not long but specific. Private property, no roads and you have to be on point to score well

I think the best golf is played with reachable holes, reasonably wide fairways, tricky greens, and some sort of OB threat

Everytime time violation is in discussion people say that there are situations where players should be allowed to take longer. With most officials they can do that. Officials who I know follow the group or player for several holes and times a lot of shots. If time violation happens regularly and in throws where extra time should not be needed, it is violation. If you are in he middle of jungle and you have difficulties to get to, extra time is allowed. Nowadays there is caddy in almost every group in pro tour. If a group ahead of you plays slow, ask caddie to call TD or assistant TD and tell them to send someone to time that group. It is a very easy solution. Officials don't always have time to follow score cards and score card doesn't always tell the problem soon enough. Players can call the TD as well. It is a very short call. "We are waiting on tee # and there is a back-log so can you send someone to time the group". It is better to spend two minutes on a phone call than wait for your turn to throw for 20 minutes and do nothing about it. Another option is to tell a spotter or staff member and ask them to deliver the message to TD. They often have a message group that they use to share news etc.

I think course design can be fixed with even less specificity. Step 1: define what “par” means. Meaning, on a par 4 for disc golf, I think a birdie should be great shot, great shot, putt, and a par should be good shot, good shot, good approach, putt. But right now, too many holes, you can just go, mediocre shot, scramble, putt and still make a birdie. So now, step 2 is, on a shot-by-shot, hole-by-hole basis, ask yourself, does this hole require the correct number of great-to-exceptional shots relative to par for a player to earn a birdie. Like really EARN. Par 3’s are a bit different, though. They should require one exceptional shot always, and more often than not, it should include some risk-reward type situation. For example, hole 14 at Maple Hill is a perfect par 3 to me. Hole 17 at USDGC.

Your simply talking about making them "play golf" not just throw round circular objects. Making decisions about what to do should be a more prominent part of the game. Having to plan and prep has to be the future of the game.

The discussion on calling foot faults and fouls on each other as players truly exemplifies the glaring lack of professionalism in disc golf. It doesn't matter if a rule is broken on purpose or not if it's broken. There are no "relative to the situation" rule infractions. The rules are written and there should be marshals or officials making the calls. It's absolute insanity to put that on the players against other players. You get this wishy washy "well they didn't mean to" bull shit when a rule is clearly broken. It's all cope from being in a ridiculous position as professional players by the sanctioning body.

I would like courses to be longer. Not how long the holes themselves are but the overall courses. More par 4s and par 5s making the courses longer but not the holes.
@kimmomatikainen1843
@kimmomatikainen1843 2 ай бұрын
How do you make a course longer without making holes longer? If you have 350 ft par 3 and 450 ft par 4, then the hole is longer. Total length of a course is length of all holes combined.
