Let me give a personal example of what Bjorn is saying. A few years ago, I dropped a $35,000 Solar System into my house. To me it was less because the government supplemented it some but that wasn't free money. I will pay for it in increased taxes over my life. The solar panels reduced my power bills about $150/month. Meaning not including interest, it will take me 237 months (or 20 years) to get my money back. Solar is expensive and it takes money to install to get those small savings over time. I get more energy than I need during the day and sell the rest (about 600 kwh/month) back to the utility coop at 3 cents per kilowatt which they sell to my neighbors for 10 cents. But when it's cloudy/rains or its dark outside (mostly winter), I'm dependent on the utility again. Because I went away from natural gas to an all electric home heating system, my utility bills are higher in the winter than summer. Less hours of sunlight, heat pumps work harder in the night/winter. This is not the simple answer politicians put forth. People need to listen to Bjorn Lomborg. His organization has already done the math.

it depends on factors such as how expensive electricity is in your country … availability of sunshine … and what you’re prepared to live without - or reduced. some live off grid with a 500W inverter and 5 kH/h of storage … but you have to wash your own dishes …

Today's teenagers including my otherwise intelligent Grands, have "climate anxiety." Since they are too brainwashed by our educators to look at the science critically, starting with some opposing viewpoints by our most eminent physicists (Happer, Lindzen), geologists (Plimer, Bridgestone), , and academic atmospheric scientists (Curry, Christy), I discuss Lomborg's views on priorities for humanity particularly the less wealthy countries. That appeals to their liberalism and idealism. Tell them about the failed Greenpeace/UN experiment in Sri Lanka. Maybe this post will help some others to widen your views.

The analogy of the smoker is not correct for climate change policy !!! Using the example of a smoker not given up because he hopes research in curing cancer will save him. This fails because cost stoping compared to cost of research is not the same as cost climate policy v cost of research! Climate policy(stop smoking) runs in large numbers eg 5% GDP where as R&D runs into billions. Zion lights also points out climate policy cost lives, in that poor developing nations are required to stall growth and suffer poverty large populations rather than use natural resources that release carbon!

Any sort of combustion releases CO2. For now, and as far into the future as we can project the amount of CO2 that humans release from where it has been sequestered by plants and animals in the past. The sad truth is that we are very close to the death point of all life because the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is so low

I was having a quiet dinner for two in a Paris restaurant in 2007 discussing climate change with my partner. I had recently read Bjorn’s Skeptical Environmentalist. A woman at a nearby table who had been listening in leaned over and gave me a similar harranging to what we witnessed here and claimed that Bjorn was a dangerous man. Just making the point that there almost 20 years ago climate extremism was already in full swing and it’s obviously got a total grip of western politics now. It will be many years before sane voices can prevail again and then only after our lives and our economies have been totally ruined in the West.

Resource depletion is a thing we should be concerned about but just like biodiversity, it's not primarily due to climate change. A tiny portion is, but most stems from our insatiable desire to be richer. Climate change is not the cause, its a side effect of the same root cause.
