Played a game against my mate as Tau, brought a Storm Surge for the meme. He never did any damage to it, except when I charged it out to hold him off the middle obj. He used "On My Position" in that turn doing 6 mortal wounds to it. Laughs were shared. Then he rolled for his own units and killed 6 of his own men. We fell over laughing.

Mine are Inquisitorial Stormtroopers. I built a list around this, where it was mostly pure scions, except that I included a couple units of Arbites (an exaction squad and a subductor squad), and an Inquisitor, his henchmen, and a Vindicaire Assassin. All the Agents units were in Rhinos, and most of the Scions were in Taurox Primes, though I think I'm gonna wanna house rule it and put the Arbites in Tauroxes too, because they should have access to those. I love the idea of the Inquisition finding out about a Chaos Cult's or Genestealer Cult's Headquarters or a cult compound where they're setting up to do their uprising, and suddenly the Aquilons drop in, slaughter the outer defences and secure the area, and then the Inquisitor drives in with his retinue, some more stormtroopers, and some Arbites to fan out to try and capture as many high ranking cultists or cult demagogues they can before any can get away. As for the Vindicaire? He was there for days already, scoping out the place and ready to provide overwatch and support. He can also be a bit of a trump card should things go sour, and they need to take out the cult leader before he gets away.

A note on the redeploy: This is also amazing with gaunts ghosts and ratlings. Use their deployment to screen out opponent's infiltrators. Use the redeploy to put Ghosts into a safer position and ratlings to a better scoring or to screen scout moves.

I think there's some very nice stuff in this Detachment. The +1 to Wound when DSing/disembarking is nice, and Firing Hot is almost exactly the Strat that I was hoping for (my version was Devastating Wounds instead of S and AP boost). I do have some slight disappointments: - Nothing for Commissars or Taurox Primes (though the damage boost when disembarking helps TPs indirectly I suppose), and almost nothing for Valkyries (one very niche use of a Strat). Something like +1 to Wound in melee for Tempestus Character models (and giving Commissars the Tempestus keyword as they should) would have been neat. Maybe Sustained Hits for the Taurox Prime's main guns, and BS 3+ for Valks? If Aerial Extraction allowed you to remove both a Valk and a unit that could fit inside it (ie, the Valk picks them up), and having a Valk made the barrage from On My Position more powerful, that would be very cool and might at least reward people who include the very cool but pretty useless Valkyrie. - Most of the Strats are good, though it feels odd that 2 (Bellicosa Drop and Fire and Relocate) essentially let Scions do what Aquillons do. Maybe if they were used on Aquillons they could get some sort of extra bonus?

I think on my position has a bit of extra play even on deep striking scions, if you can say, drop down within charge range of a vehicle, your exposed, probably going to die next turn anyways. but if you can tag 1-2 vehicles, that might be a good final use of the squad. Really, just any situation where you find yourself locked up against multiple opponents and unlikely to have that unit survive next turn anyways.. or you just want your own unit dead so you don't have to deal with firing into melee. Its niche, but its definitely got use cases. Fits that the kriegers synergize well with it.

Man this makes me regret getting rid of my scion army some. I used them a lot in 7th, and then mid 8th I dont remember what they did but it killed how I like playing them. And after sitting there for years and years I traded them in. Great to see them getting some support.

A little extra seasoning here MG.. Creed, PCS, regular platoon infantry.. Is that 2x Lascannon HWT's advancing and firing hitting on 4's with take Aim, and rerolling 1s, but wait, there's more, in your opponents movement they get into overwatch range.. is that then 2x overwatch from Creed and also hitting on 4s rerolling 1s as within range of a platoon infantry squad with Las cannons!!!

I played a game with this at 1k. 3 command squad 10 man unit dropped out of tauroxes and killed a GUO and MVB in one turn. Feels good man.

Just a thought, but you could use the Priority-Drop Beacon along with Deathstrike Missles to actually nuke someone in their deployment zone if you get turn one, that's a real danger close.

no they cant be led by a scion officer and deathstrikes take a minimum of 2 turns to fire 1 to mark the target then a second to fire on the target

@tmzasz what are you talking about? I was referring to when Mordian was talking about move blocking with a scion gigablob, that dropping turn one plus marking up their deployment zone with 3 deathstrikes would be very silly. And devastating depending on the army and terrain layout

Got an idea. Its rather situational but in the instance where you need to absolutely get some new reinforcements on the board in the next turn you can explode your scions/infantry into the enemy and spend the points to reinforce them. A mighty expensive investment and very situational but it's an idea.

i rhink I'm miss understanding something, could swear he mentions deepstriking 2 units in turn one but apart from priority beacons how is he getting the second squad? Or is he just counting the scions and command squad seperately? Scanned bach through the video and cant pick it out. As two blobs for dividing the attention would be brilliant. Last wish list item for pure scions for me would be allowing command squads to join aquillons. Scions in the primes aquillons+ commands squads dropping.

Surely on my position is supposed to be used when you have 1 model left in combat so you only take 1 mortal wound anyway? It happens all the time when I'm playing against orks

Actually IMO On My Position should be something like: Throw 6D6 for every 1-3 your unit suffers a Mortal wound on a 4-5 your opponent does. Or just all units in that close combat suffer D6 mortals. period. I don't get why it has to be that complicated. Just roll a dice for each unit and go with it.

I'm sure its just his work schedule that makes it difficult to put videos out, plus he has a family and what not and doesn't want to put every waking moment into the channel. Hard disagree about on my position. I got charged by a few tanks into my krieg blob the other day and spit out 12 mortals for taking 5 on my squad to have 3 come back next phase.

Krieg is pretty much the only squad that it makes any sense on, except for the odd situation where 1 or 2 models miraculously survive a charge.

I just hope that krieg heavy weapon squads are the same costs as regular heavy weapon squads. 300pts for 18 lascannons hitting on 4+ with full reroll And here me out, heavy wepaon squad with lascannons in overwhatch. Hitting on 4+ with full rerolls is kinda neet with 3 lascannons.

HWT don't get full rerolls they get the rolls "1" to hit.
