I spent most of this morning swearing at mine, and then gave in and went looking for a video on how to do it. Like you, I tried various combinations of rings and methods. The only thing I did differently was to stick the plastic part to my table with blu tack. That was after the damn thing pinged off as I was trying to force the rings on.

Yeah they are a complete pain...but once you've done it once it seems to come much more easily. Your idea is good too!

Yupp, just finger force. The second's always the hardest one, because it has the same diameter as the first.

It's an interesting step because if you don't have strong fingers this step is going to be pretty difficult for people. If you think of the usual setup it's all just a matter of placement and in the right order. Like you said, using the high torque servo saver requires a bit of muscle :)

@@FastFreddyRC It's not so much finger strength, I find, as it's about having thick skinned thumbs. I guess I lack both these days; I used to bend bottle caps backwards for fun when I was younger, but that's a long time ago, and the middle ring proved a bit of a challenge for me. What worked for me was using a closed pair of bendt nose pliers (?) to wedge open middle ring as I was pushing it on, so people struggling might give that a go.

Great video Freddie. 👌 Much as I love my Tamiyas, their servo savers have always left a lot to be desired on many of their kits..... especially the big wheeled ORV family..... slop city! 😂 This upgrade is certainly an improvement, and like you say, can be a tad fidly. I usually put it together as you demonstrated, but in a vice rather than by hand.... effortless! Though be careful not to overtighten! 👍 👍 👍

Thank you! I'll be curious to see how it's different, as like you say, most kits don't come with this type of setup. So I would agree with you that it is an improvement. A vice would definitely work!

My tip, Make sure its a Genuine Tamiya one, I had all kinds of binding problems fitting the Tamiya alloy arm 54120 to it and found out it was due to it been a poor copy "for Tamiya" not "Tamiya"

Great tip! That makes total sense. Often the knock off versions aren’t made exactly like the originals which can cause problems….and can also be frustrating.
