So happy we had the opportunity to meet Patrick at Elizabeth’s Barber Shop in Saint Paul, Minnesota! This traditional barbershop is located in the neighborhood Patrick grew up in and has now been serving the local community a little over a year.
Yet the service and shop already have the atmosphere of a fine old school barbershop establishment. The kind of shop that has been around for generations.
It’s a beautiful space in a 1920s building that still retains the original tin ceiling tiles and exposed brick wall. It took around 9 months for the build out of the barbershop, and each piece in the shop has a story.
The workstations handmade in Holland. The antique cash register. The walls adorned with vintage industry posters, local history, and family photos that includes his mother as a young child.
Patrick named his shop after his mom. He says, “To have my mom be able to drive down the street she lived on her whole life and see a business named after her, I’ve already won because of that.”
For Patrick, barbering saved his life. He says, "It gave me a purpose. I am sober almost six years. I always tell people when I was drinking and doing things I probably shouldn’t have been doing, I took a lot of peace out of the world. Barbering allowed me an opportunity to try to put some peace back in the world, one person at a time.”

I love this, the whole atmosphere is absolutely amazing. This is a proper, high-class, gentleman's barbershop. No posters of teenage models with outrageous hair, no adverts... just wood everywhere, old-timey pictures, poster of a classic car (Mercury Eight, or Hudson Hornet) and Patrick... Well dressed, professional, dedicated to his job, taking pride in the art he makes. You can see his passion and professionalism in every move. If I lived near that barber shop, I'd go there to have a nice haircut. I don't mind my local place, where I get my haircut... But it feels pressured - sit down, get done as quick as possible, next customer, etc... This was a 40+ minute shave! I shave in like 3 minutes... Customer's face must have been smoother than a baby's bottom.
