I have been a leather smith since 1970. In all those years I have developed many of the techniques that this craftsman has developed and a good many I have not. For such a young man to be such an amazing shoe maker at this age is an amazing feet. His skiving abilities not to mention his abilities to keep so many tools as sharp as razors is wonderous. He should be so very proud to have developed to this point at this young age. I have watched this video almost twice and will watch it many more times an continue to learn from this fine craftsman. Congratulations Siroeno on an amazing job well done and I hope to see more of your work in the future. You are an inspiration to leatherworkers of all types.

The man, his tools, the strong threads he makes, and the hide--all working in harmony, without any shade of laboring, but rather the inevitable display of hidden pleasure and gratification in what he is doing. Doing magnificent work, producing such a treasure of a shoe, giving satisfaction to people---all of these while saving the crops.

The Japanese were the first Asian nation to leap from traditional, isolated island culture and economy to industrial economy in a couple of generations from the late 19th century. & after WW2 , they rose from the ashes of war to become the 1st Asian nation to become a 1st world nation. Yet able to keep many of its traditions & what makes it distinctly Japanese. I do think inherent in their culture is a value to do things right. Of course at times they also fail to do things right. But there is by and large a real value placed on execution & improvement is inherent in Japanese society & culture. This young man exemplifies this social & cultural value.
