Great video, I just paid a tech to replace the whole motor pump unit. Now that I have watched your video, I will just replace the seals myself when the new unit goes out again in a few years. I just subscribed!!!!!

I had leak at the “wet end “seal and the pump shaft was pitted causing that so I ended up getting a entire pump/wet end for the Hot Springs Accolade 2005 but I’m getting a drip from the collar compression fitting on the horizontal side as I was filling it…The O Rings on both are new and I added some silicone and let it sit overnight before attempting to fill it again but it started dripping again… as far as I know the pump is aligned okay and no cracks on the threading collar ..at least none I can see at this point so it’s frustrating to say the least …more silicone?

Adding to my post….I finally noticed that the “Wet End” of the new pump and Wet End already had an O Ring on the side threading essentially doubling up the O Ring on the Compression Collar not unlike forgetting your oil filter O Ring was left on the Engine Block installing a new oil filter and the oil squirts out…

At 13:00 you remove the plastic seal to gain access to the shaft of the pump. A flat head screw driver does not fit in that grove giving purchase to remove the seal and the video is shot so that the seal is completely obstructed by your hand during the removal process. Could you give ANY additional advice on tricks to remove that plastic cap without destroying it in the process?

I replaced the entire wet end. When input it back together it leaks around the shaft. Any idea why?

It would be related to the seals

Your seal consists of a stationary piece, that which doesn't turn. And a rotating piece, it turns. The rotating seal has to seal two surfaces. First is the contact point where the two polished surfaces meet. Second is around the shaft. This is made by an o-ring that sits in internal surface of the seal (inside diameter). When these o rings fail or develop flat spots, water leaks by. In cases of extreme wear, the shaft can become out of round and the o ring cannot seal around it. Here you may need to go up in o ring size or change the shaft. Usually if shaft is damaged, no oring change will work. And in the long run will damage any new seal. In my experience, the oring is damaged/cut when inserted by a sharp tool or when sliding the shaft through. Apply some silicone to your o-rings to facilitate smooth assembly. Compare o rings coming out with those going in. In many cases o ring diameter can change between model years, and your kit may have come with the wrong size.

John I’ve recently gotten an older hot tub up and running at a house we moved into. I’ve now discovered there is a leak around the pump. Could I send you a pic of what it looks like and you point me in the right direction diagnostically. Thanks

Do not touch the ceramic or graphite on the seal, or get ANYTHING on those surfaces. If you do, clean them with alcohol and a microfiber cloth. They need to be completely clean to seal properly. Lubricate the long through bolt threads with anti seize compound or you may never get them out again.
