OUTSTANDING video--one of the best I've seen. You have everything set up, all the right tools, a good cameraperson, and you walk us through the whole troubleshooting process step-by-step. Language and explanations are pitched exactly right--not too high level, nothing skipped, nothing extraneous. Fantastic!

Thanks Mike (@KrossberPools), very informative. Just a regular homeowner who had to replace the wet end on his pump. Learned a lot about hot tub plumbing from watching youtube videos like yours, made me feel more at ease! Thanks again!! In my case, I was in the 1% that had my leak in the faceplate on the wet end (was easy to spot when the pump was running).

I have that exact pump and need to change the wet end. It has been leaking through the shaft seal for a while now and it is thoroughly corroded. For the life of me I can't get the impeller to budge. Any advice for removing tenaciously stuck impellers?

Wow great video! I took my faceplate off and found that there actually was a crack on the inner part of that faceplate but I have no idea how it got there (I have pics) but it is pretty obvious I have been over chlorinating my spa for about a year. All the black plastic inner parts are bleached white. My question is can I send that down a bit and epoxy it to fix the crack? Will the chlorinated water break down the epoxy? I think the stop and start of the crack can be sealed but love to hear your opinion!

Thanks for great explanation. I have a 1/8hp Iron Might recirc pump on my Freestyle model 255(Sunrise?) that began making noticable noise. Normally runs very quiet 24/7. On exam i noted there was a small leak under the shaft, most likely seals. Took the motor out and replace in kind but saved the old one for a hobby job. The shaft had noticeable rust on the visible part between wet end and motor. Some white calcium or other dried on mineral substance maybe from spray and dehydration? Anyway, when taking the impeller off which was really on tight, it looks like i cracked some of the plastic on the impeller because the brass nut is slightly visible. Should I replace the impeller even if it goes back on the shaft easily and spins straight, or just replace. Also, when I spin the shaft there is some rubbing sounds and some friction, not a lot. I dont know if this means the bearings are shot and also need replacement? Couldnt find your video that shows the bearing replacement, can you point me in the right directions. Thanks for all the great presentations. Saved my time and headaches!

How often should you replace the shaft seal?

Mine is leaking at the union on the face plate (where the union joins the face plate mentioned @ 3:29). It only drips when not under pressure, but REALLY drips when the jets kick on. Is this the O-ring on the face plate? Thanks.

Hi there, mate,I have a balboa control unit, And the flow was not working as strong as it should. I thought it was the pump, The jet button when pressing started to stop working and just become to have a mind of its own. I notice once the pump started without pressing any button and once just stopped also. So because I was not getting much flow, first bought a new impellor, because the other one was destroyed. Did not solve the problem, still low flow. Now I have installed a new pump, And the same problem. So there was nothing wrong with the original pump. Now I installed the new pump today, normally it goes on PR for about 7 minutes then it all starts up normally. So when I put the breakers on, the pump was running on low speed, Straight away, that was strange, never done that before when PR is starting up the on process but is a new pump. The jet button stopped working again with a clicking sound coming from the Balboa control box. Could this just be a fuse problem, possibly. or a relay ,what does a relay look like ? I am dumbfounded here. So now it is not the pump or capacitor, all new so , ruled out. The heating element is all fine and working, all checked there.I have a video ,if you were interested to look at.

Thanks for a very informative video. I have a Sundance Denali that is leaking from the shaft. the tub is 4 yrs old and I also figured I'd give her a new impeller and gaskets on whatever i take apart. That will cost me around 50 and a new pump is around 275. Would you go ahead and rebuild it as long as everything comes apart relatively nicely or would you recommend changing the entire pump based on its age and I have to take it apart anyway?
@krossberpools40735 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve. If everything comes apart okay and its doesn't sound like the pump bearings are going bad then I would surely just replace the pump seal.
@dawicksterstravels5 жыл бұрын
@@krossberpools4073 Seeing this video is a couple yrs old I didn't think I would get a reply, let alone so fast, you rock! I got it apart and the impeller off. The impeller came off very easy, it wasn't even hand tight and wonder if that could be my problem but since I am this far I will be replacing the seal. I havent attempted to get the seal out from the dry end of the shaft and the seal on the impellor side is the spring type and came off easily. Any tips for removing the other 1/2 of the seal on the dry side of the shaft? Do you sell seals or other hot tub maintenance products? As long as you are decently priced I would be more then happy to shop with you. Thanks again!

Blake Drennen most often you could expect anywhere from $60-$125 if everything comes apart easy enough.

U mite want to stick to pools and not spas.that barb on the front of the pump with the clear hose goes to an air line in the tub to vent the air out of the pump when filling the tub up.so you don't get a air lock.
@krossberpools40736 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Greg. You might want to research spa brands such and Beachcomber, Coast, Barefoot, Viking, Saratoga, etc. They all plumb their bleed lines to opposite pumps and not into the spas plumbing. While some brands do it solely for preventing air locks others that build for cold climate with more than one jet pump also do this to keep a median temperature of warm water to prevent freezing. Might want to do a little more research before commenting 😉😉

Where I live, they just replace the entire pump!!!
