Kay Bee they were mostly in malls here in the United States. Though small they were very cool toy stores. I bought a Nintendo 64 there in 1998 that I still have.

Yeah the '90s mall toy store. Only store I knew that priced HWs for over a dollar.

Yup KB Toys was my scene at the mall. I remember seeing the Hot Wheels crash-ups 2-packs there, also got a Matchbox USPS LLV there, and I remember being fascinated by the table of "weasel balls" they had rolling around at the entrance (it was a little stuffed weasel attached to a electronic ball that had a weight inside that made the toy thrash around and be crazy). I can still close my eyes and picture that store for whatever reason. I can hear the hype for Playstation games playing from the TV's and it had polished hardwood floors and kind of a space-age art deco styling to the counters and decorations (that was a thing in the late 90's with Y2K). The mall was demolished in 2005 and the store went with it.

Thank you very much! The main reason I open the cars is because I enjoy my collection loose (mostly), and I simply don't have the space to display and enjoy all the cars I have if they all remain in the packaging. The Plano 5324 cases are the best and most economical way I have found to display and enjoy my collection, as well as review them for you guys here on my channel. I have no intention of selling my collection for at least the next few decades, so I am not overly concerned about additional value that may be found on mostly common mainline Hot Wheels cars. The variations I discover are also easier to discern when the cars have been opened, and lastly, the condition of the packaging is often not ideal on these 30+ year old cars.

Interesting selection of HW Blue Card oldies. Pontiac Banshee looks like a car a comic hero would drive in the 90s. I like the Command Tank and the Recycling Truck. And it's nice that you mention prices for these, many people tend to seriously over-price old Hot Wheels on Ebay. I blame the brand's popularity. Thanks for showing these loose!

Great vid as usual! ;-) Do you have the older Hot Wheels Classics, the Modern Classics, the Garage series and the older Drag Strip Demons loose? I never see them in your room. Or are they still carded and in a box?
@wtffor
@wtffor 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do have a 90% complete Classics series, incomplete collection of Modern Classics, 100% complete Garage series, and 75% complete Drag Strip Demons series. All of these cars in my collection are still carded (and likely will stay carded) and have been put away for storage until I can find room to display properly. They used to reside on a wall in my room, but that has since been changed over to Plano cases for the Hot Wheels mainline of 1998 through 2002. The cars had been on my wall in long slider sleeves, but over the 4 years they were there the sleeves began to let go from the drywall, and put the card conditions at risk, hence the first reason the collection was taken down and boxed up until a future date. Thanks for your comment and question!

@@wtffor Thank you for the reply. That is a lot more than I have. I have about 30% Classics series, nearly all of the older Modern Classics, 65% Garage series and 40% older Drag Strip Demons. So still some catching up to do. Before the year 2013 I was collecting mainly 1:43 scale and 1:18 scale but because of space I only collect 1:64 scale now. I enjoy this scale very much as I played with Matchbox Superfast as a kid. So most Hot Wheels from before 2013 I have to buy from good old Ebay. ;-) Still thinking to free all the Garage Series and Drag Strip Demons as they are nice to have loose and the cardback is pretty much the same. We will see.

Got a question for you; as a kid I wanted that portable hot wheels tv from the speed points catalog... as an adult I cannot even find a real photo of it. I want to track one down but I’m worried it may have never been produced. Have you ever came across this portable tv?

Kay-Bee Toys was a popular toy store located in malls in the US. Sadly closed a while ago. And is it just me, or does it seem that cars from the 80s and earl 90s roll a lot better then modern cars?

Still hurts to watch you open these up...can't help but think some other collector could use one on a card....BUT, it's your choice, your car, and I'm watching it all! BTW, did I see a "$1.39" price tag??? SO...did/have Hotwheels not really gone up in relation to inflation? I mean, I can buy a brand-new Hotwheels car for .94 cents (U.S.)...now THAT'S something!
@wtffor
@wtffor 5 жыл бұрын
Mattel has kept the price relatively the same over the many years by: 1-progressively making the cars out of cheaper materials (plastic, lack of opening parts); 2-increasing production due to higher volume per unit price goes down; and 3-outsourcing factories to lower cost labor countries and/or automation in manufacturing.

When you were mentioning the book with prices, I’ve noticed some books are correct. I have the spectraflame redline guide book that came out around 2008, and at the time the prices were ridiculously high. As time has passed, the mint loose prices seem to be almost exact to normal market value and the mint blister packs are too low for what they sell for. Depending on the age of your book those prices may be the norm whereas before they were too high
@wtffor
@wtffor 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I have noticed the same... quite often packaged hot wheels seem to be a bit low in price compared to mint loose as per price guides from years pas (which rarely have mint loose pricing it seems).
