Fantastic wood stoves. My Drolet in Southeast Alabama has saved me about $300 per month to heat my home. It costs $25 per ton of untreated railroad ties cut ends waste from a mill. All hardwood. No bark. I burn 4.5 tons per winter. $125 per winter.

Purchased a home in central Mass. I never use oil and my home never gets below 60 during the winter. I love my wood stove and the wood is mostly free if you get it yourself.

Had an old hearthstone in the house when we bought it and just got a new drolet 3000 all set up today and am familiarizing myself with it. Thanks for making this video. It’s the most helpful thing I’ve seen so far as I try to figure out how to use a modern stove.

Is do the same thing except I don't waste my time with little kindling when you've already got fire. Chuck a couple splits and some whole round 8" size logs on. Let her rip for 10 minutes or so and choke it down. Easily burns/smolders all day with the note that I do get what many would call excessive creesote.

I live in North East Mass with cold winters as well. I bought the HT 2000 5 years ago and love it. I was burning 5 cords and now burning a little over 4 1/4 cords. These new stoves do save on the amount you burn. My first and second floors, colonial style 2500 sq feet. The basement where the stove is is about another 1000 sq feet. Basement stays 80’s, 1st floor 68-70, 2nd floor bedrooms 60-62 unless it’s -10 to-30 and then fireplace on 1st floor great room will be run. I went from 4 tanks of oil to 1 tank per year. If I would need to buy a new stove, I’d step it up to the next size up. But the ht 2000 is a great stove for the price and made in Canada, another plus. Great video and stay warm.

I have a Drolet HT2000 in an old mobile home in north central MN. I know the HT2000 is not approved for use in a mobile home. An insurance company probably would refuse a claim if the house burned down but hey, insurance? we don't need no stinking insurance. It can hit -60 here about 1 winter in 3, -40 most winters, and -20 every winter. The Drolet has been the only source of heat for the last 11 winters. I go through about 5 cords of cut, split, dry oak every winter. Not bad considering how poorly insulated the home is. I try to have at least a 2 year supply of wood on hand so it's really dry. The thing I like best is the 3.5 cubic feet firebox. It will keep the house warm from between 8 hours if it's really cold to 14 hours in temps about zero outside. None of this getting up in the middle of the night to add wood to the stove. I always get at least 8 hours of beauty sleep, and I need it. Biggest gripe is twice a year I have to let the fire go out and remove one of the air tubes and both roof firebricks from the firebox to clean the chimney. Drolet is a great heavy built quality stove. HT2000 has been replaced by the HT3000 at almost twice what I paid for mine.

Enjoy your videos...well done! I'm in Ontario, Canada...weather is very similar to yours...gets about same temperature in the winter. We are considering putting a Drolet 3000 in our basement to heat our entire house with the hopes of lowering our power consumption by our electric/heatpump furnace. It was doubted by the retailer that this woodstove would properly heat our whole house. Our house is square timber, 42' X 26' (1092 sq. ft.) so if you count the basement, then 2184 sq. ft. What are your thoughts? ALSO...you mentioned you burned just under 3 cords of wood....is that bush cords or face cords. In our area, a bush cord is a pile of logs cut 4 ft long and piled 4ft high X 8 Ft long. Therefore, a bush cord would be equivalent to 3 face cords. A face cord being logs cut and split to 16 inches long, piled 4 ft. high X 8 ft. long. Thanks for your response in advance.
@mattsara2802

Thanks. Our house is about the same as yours so I think you can because we do. The most wood we have ever used is 3.5 cored and a cord of wood for us is 4’x4’x8’ split. We also like to keep our house in the mid 70s so if we didn’t keep it in the mid-70s, we would use less wood.

Hey, I have a drolet ht3000 here and I don't have any problem heating my 2500sq ft house. I live in North east New Brunswick so it's quite cold here. The amount of wood you will burn really depends how warm you want your house to be and how long you expect to burn, I can start burning mid October if I want to.. like a fire at night just to kill the night cold till November, then heat all day Nov-March and night fire till mid April. I love wood stove heat and I hate electricity bills so yeahhh. I can easily burn 6cords 4x4x8 in a year (oct-april). You should at least calculate 1cord per month if you expect to use your stove alot. Oh and if you can get a fan it's quite useful to move that heat around! Hope you enjoy that drolet3000. 😊

This will be my first winter with a stove. I'm in Kansas. We will have a few cold days, but it won't get bitter cold until January ish. I'm so excited to start heating with this thing. I love fire and can sit back and watch it dance for hours. What kind of wood do you use up there? We're very blessed here. We get to use hard woods mostly. I have some Osage Orange to try. I only plan on putting in one log of it mixed with other woods. I have been binge watching wood burning stove videos on KZbin.

The fact that you have that little heat-powered fan on top of your stove tells me you're not too swift. That little fan is a total waste of money. The fact that you located your stove in a corner next to two walls confirms that you're not too swift. Maybe a better location and wasn't possible, but locating the stove centrally will be more efficient, because heat will radiate out from all sides. BTW, a stove with cast iron tubes running through the firebox and connected to an external fan will put out that extra heat needed on extremely cold days. I've been using an Englander brand for more than 35 years, and it works like a charm. Going out for the day? Move coals to one side, load box, turn down air intake. Wood will burn from front to back. There's no flu damper: big mistake. Finally, it looks like standard flue pipe, which I used to use, too. However, creosote will eat through this material in less than 2 years, and you don't want to find yourself replacing it in the middle of winter. If you don't keep a careful eye on it, you'll find a weak peace will collapse. If you're not home or are sleeping, you're going to come home or wake up to a fire. I was lucky enough to find a stainless steel flu manufacturer who sold me 4 ft long pieces for a little less than I was buying 2 ft sections of steel pipe. Creosote is a major problem. Even wood that has been seasoned for a couple of years puts out creosote. On a warmer day, first I clean out the firebox, and starting at the highest point, I beat on opposite sides of each flu piece simultaneously with two pieces of 2 x 2. Make sure the flu damper is wide open so that creosote chunks do not get bottled up at the damper. BTW, a typical flu brush will not do an adequate job. If you get a flu fire inside standard flu pieces, you're going to be in deep $h!t!! So, familiarize yourself on how to stifel this kind of fire, or you will be dealing with a major problem. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

@mattsara2802 Pardon me, a-hole, I wasn't aware of that color in stainless steel. The stove may be in the center of the house, but it's positioned in the corner of the room, with two walls inhibiting the radiation of heat from two sides. Settle down, you'll live longer.
