The thing Rosenberg doesn't get... I am black and I know not only all my hip hop and r&b genres but James Taylor's music too. We in the black community, expecially those born from 1975 and earlier, had no choice back in the 80's to not only get our music, but we got all the white pop too. Watching Video Music Box and MTV. That's why we know Madonna and George Michael, etc, etc., etc. Being black in America means having a presence in our culture and others.

Picture this.... Between 1988 and 1996 r&b songs and videos featured what... mostly young men singing groups who wanted love, not just a quickie. It was the era of the r&b group. Male, female, didn't matter. They sung about relationships, wanted them, needing them, getting out of bad ones, and all had true emotion in the songs. The guys all looked groomed, smart, basically the college look: Boyz2Men, Shai, Hi-five. and the ladies were sophisticated, strong, and the most beautiful women you ever saw. En Vogue, TLC, Jade, etc. If I see those groups all the time on videos and hear them on the radio, I want to be like them, and have a girl like them. That's the reason why this music was so important, it was positive, it was about love, and the things we all want. and these two legends helped shape that image for r&b, and for black people. If you can name me a female right now, that can hold a candle to Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, not only in singing but in demeanor, I would love to hear who that is.

I’ve been saying this and these were my thoughts when listening yesterday morning. Everyone coming at Rosenberg trash ass opinion but Ebro was buggin. How does it make sense that you do not have a black person on the Hot 97 radio show. Shani Kulture is the closest thing but he also has the Caribbean background which is very different. Laura actually knew the songs but females growing up at that time SHOULD know those songs. Kas tried but A Dominican household is different. Ebro seems like he hates the black main stream songs because they are “too” white which reminds him of growing up in a white household or something. He’s got so many inner issues that come out in the show that it brings the show down. Same thing with Rosenberg. His inner issues show killing the whole vibe.
