Anti-intellectual? I met Dyson once. We were both in a green room, preparing to appear on a segment of the "Oprah" show. Upon first being introduced, he said to me: "Nice meeting you. So are you published?" I paused for a few seconds, wondering where in the world that question came from, and then replied to him, "Well, if you count the over 300 articles written for black-interest magazines and newspapers, then yes." It was an attempt at light, casual humor. He then spoke up again, saying: "Well, I went to Princeton." I turned to him again and answered, "And? I went to Grambling." So, his elitist point was what? His Ivy League credentials somehow make him an intellectual? If that be the case, and if that's how they address people upon meeting, thank God I'm not one.
@DaliDessalines

Maybe he was trying to apologise by countering his own question in saying, though I went to Princeton I still have problems. Maybe that was his way of saying I didn't mean to offend by asking are you published.

That's deep. I lived and worked in Hollywood for years and found most of the people I was excited to meet were dark, not in some conspiracy kind of way but I worked with comedians and found them often joyless and different from their persona. I'm a nurse now. When I see joy it's actual joy. Like he said about kanye though...black excellence is still a human examination of individuals. Rick James tied a woman to a bed and burned her with crack pipes, James brown beat women, MLK was an unfaithful man... Gotta take the arrogance with the medicine I suppose. Who else tired? Thanks for your comment though. Appreciated.

I gotta disagree wit the honorable Michael Eric Dyson. Just because Malcolm wasn’t in Alabama only proves what he stood for. He stood for black nationalism and separatism which Mr Dyson knows. MLK wanted us to assimilate and that’s one of the main reasons he endured the struggle of the civil rights movement. Me personally I’m not a civil rights activist even tho I benefit from the civil rights movement. I’m for a sovereign nation for like minded people no matter your culture as long as we live under the same rules and regulations of our land. Peace

So I'm a year late, but Michael Eric Dyson is right, or better yet, Rosenberg was right. People are not familiar with the revolutionary MLK. MLK was more radical near the end of his life and even felt some regret towards his assimilation ideals. He talked about, to paraphrase, fearing that he might've integrated his people into a burning house. We bought into the new mainstream narrative the MLK is summarized by his "I Have a Dream" excerpt, but we have to study for ourselves so that we know who stood where.

I majored in philosophy but enjoyed post modernism for its alliterive use of ideas, in a similar way that the literary concept is applied to cadence and sound. Looking back it's clear that it was a useful exercise for me in the same way any type of brain teaser is. But theres no reason or basis for validating anything spun out from this process. Dyson never rebuts a well made point against him. He will either move the goal posts or change the topic or denigrate the other. It's disingenuous. I'm looking forward to seeing one of his slandered corpses in an upcoming documentary this summer. DR CORNELL WEST. YES!!!

Then writes books and profits from it you should not be idolizing this man you should see him for the devil that he is because if he can't keep you down and keep you angry he can't write books and make money from it no different than Jesse Jackson Al Sharpton and the rest

So why not talk about MLKs switch and saying that Malcolm and most notably the Honorable Elijah Muhammad was right, who Malcolm took his ques from? Yes, it is easy to say Martin was in the fight and Malcolm wasn't but Malcolm was saying that it shouldn't have been a fight. Elijah and Malcolm was saying do for ourselves what the white man has done for himself. Martin truly derailed our movement whether accidentally or purposefully. Before Martin it was Black people doing for ourselves after we were giving all of our resources back to the White man. Martin even said he feared he integrated his people into a burning house.

Plectrum Electrum fair point, but this man is a racist and a race pimp, this dude has been trying to feed black people the same message for years, black people don't need this message of bullshit, they need a message of responsibility and a message of individual choice and action, look what the democratic partie has done to the black family structure, and this dude wants to talk about white supremacy, I'm sure that exists to some extent, but that's not a major problem for black community's.

Infinite Rumination nah brother he is a straight race pimp who only cares about the color green. He is selling his book he ain't trying to do anything to actually change anything, he wants there to be a racial divide so he can capitalize on it. If you listened to the interview he carefully Bobs and weaves making sure not to insult anyone too much but just enough to keep you entertained. He does that because he is a salesman and doesn't want to burn Bridges he might want to take later if it fits him financially. Don't be fooled by the rhetoric my man is spitting he's too smart to bury himself in a hole, he surgically makes arguments that keeps him positioned well in arms reach of every opportunity. If you don't believe it give me one quote from him that burn a bridge between him and Trump, he knows what he is doing.

+Mauricio Lamas No, that was your interpretation of what he said. Not what he meant. Having an education and being open to other's opinions whether you agree with them or not is the point. Having a collegiate education, wherever it comes from allows you to think critically about any situation and not to just believe what you have been spoon fed. I.E. I need to get my education from an institutions that "has to be what he (Michael E. Dyson) and other approve of." He did not mention at all that He or other highly educated Blacks need to approve. He said READ and get an EDUCATION. Finish school and think critically.

@@lifestraight I can't remember exactly what I was referring to because I wrote that comment 5 months ago but I can say that over the last 5 years Dr. West has made some questionable choices that have perplexed and disappointed me, such as supporting Jill Stein in the 2016 election when Bernie Sanders lost the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton. We see what horrible fallout resulted from people who made similar protest-vote choices and Dr. West is an influencer by his status and stature and I don't believe he did this country any favors by behaving in such a kneejerk fashion. Beyond that, his association and support of questionable characters such as Jimmy Dore has been very disappointing. Jimmy Dore is the kind of Progressive that is inclined to praise, show support for, and encourage support for Trump's policies at the expense of Democratic policies designed to help the American people. Characters such as these are very detrimental to forming the kind of unity we need on the left side of the political aisle to fight America's brand of fascism. So given the gravity of our situation, I have to question Dr. West's choices to align himself with questionable characters at the risk of enabling fascism to continue to gain a foothold in American society.

@@MsBahbii Im not sure about Jimmy Dore. I wont however fault him for voting on conviction. If more people were free thinkers and weren't beholden to the more popular candidates, we'd have an actual democracy with actual options instead of two corporate backed choices. Dont blame Dr. West for voting for Jill Stein, blame the American people for supporting bad candidates. Dr. West is right on his critique of American imperialism, drone strikes, America's involvement in wars, its incarceration rates, white supremacy, and capitalism. He's right on a lot of issues and displays moral courage where others don't. Just my take.

If you ever watched more of these interviews by Dyson. You see he repeats the same exact words EXACTLY word for word. He's rehearsed all this it's an act. And everyone is easily swooned by some words. Listen to LARRY ELDERS if you want to listen to a real black man. This dude will never try to debate or even go on larry elders show.

Very well said! I don't always agree with some of Elder conservative views- but on the whole he speaks really good common sense! I think more black people should listen to Larry Elder and get a different perspective- instead of all the Dyson of this world constantly going on about race ! I don't trust blacks like Dyson- thinking that he knows whats best for black people! only you know what's best for yourself, not black leaders. I'm afraid Dyson in reality is a millionaire, (which is great for him) - and like Thomas Sowell said most people black or white care about their own interests first . So we can talk and keep talking about race issues, by after whats said we all have to look after ourselves. Dyson or any other race baiter are sure not going, to help your present day circumstances !

Troy Barnes nah I'm for all ideas bro. I get the reperations part and I heard him throw it around a couple of times. But while we fight or wait for reperations what are we doing to break the cycle of poverty from our communities and advancing our society for children
@karlmarx809
@karlmarx809 6 жыл бұрын
Nelson Fighting for things like universal health care and free college education would be a huge benefit to poor black people. Also make it so primary school education is based on funds distributed at the state level rather than on local property taxes which perpetuates and exacerbates the problem of underfunded schools in certain areas. Reforming the criminal justice system and legalizing weed (also release everyone in prison who's in there for weed and expunge their records) and decriminalize all drugs would help. People on the left are working on these issues all the time. Conservatives just say "personal responsibility" and "free markets" - not too useful in my opinion because Black Americans are starting from a position so far behind everyone else that our system doesn't really represent any kind of equality of opportunity. Preestablished equality of opportunity (aka "a level playing field") is required for conservative ideas to create a fair and just society and we've never had anything near that. Read John Rawls "Justice as Fairness" on this.

Easy Money I find it quite ironic that in a debate about political correctness, in which Peterson argued that the left goes too far, you’d suggest calling him a mean white man, which is true based on Peterson’s argument, is going too far and somehow beyond the pale.
