sample clearance is some brutal things i'm with you, kanye didn't even clear the samples on his own record which says a lot in terms of the time restraints + how much he understood he was okay to take that for himself + not another artist + the lauryn hill hype came from teyana not ye. 100% in any other circumstance she shoulda heard the record before it was released but it was about 5 records in 5 weeks with a producer and an executive producer who was the same person. teyana got the best mixed + best produced record of the lot + lets be honest here she was the least well known of the entire cycle. as i said above i love teyana + understand how this could be gendered + that's fair enough (i'm from australia so unsure of her impact properly in america) but kanye took an artist who wasn't a pop star or well known globally + made her the victory lap for the whole *surgical summer* so why is that bad?
