Natural medicine doctor here! Nutrition absolutely plays into hair loss. What is second most important is hormones. Make sure your hormone levels are correct. Menopausal women lose estrogen- which will change hair thickness, and give you that wide part and thin hair. Estrogen therapy does wonders and you’ll feel better. Don’t be afraid of identical estrogen/ it improves your life quality, gives you back your lustrous hair, and plumps your skin. Also a fun tip- eat two Brazil nuts a day to keep your selenium levels at a good level. ❤

This video was an "ah-ha" moment for me! This whole time I've been using biotin thinking it would help my extreme thinning, and yes, my nails have been growing, but so was my hair and no thickness! I'm changing my strategy after watching this! I was lucky to have the genetics for thick, long hair. Now, at 55, menopausal and chemo treated, my hair is so thin that ponytails are not an option. With Minoxidil, i think it should be noted that is one of those that you must continue using once you start it. Any hair growth from it can just fall back out if you stop using it. Highly recommend finding a great dermatologist that puts on their website that they treat hair loss before even starting Minoxidil. Also, the one she flashed on the screen is the one to get! The serum is less heavy than the foam and less irritating, and Costco sells a 6 pack for about $20. When used once a day (typical protocol for women using 5%), it lasts me a year.

Great topic. I wash my hair every other day. The night before, I derma roll the areas I need it and use men's minoxidil. I buy the small Kirkland brand bottles from Amazon. I do not use the syringe it comes with. I pour a small bottle into a small glass bottle with a spray nozzle. For me so much less messy. Rub it in well, then wash hands. I wash my hair the next morning. I have seen a lot of benefit using this method. I never round brush my hair dry. Though I'm sure it would give me more body, I don't like the payoff of the feeling I get using mousse. I do use a leave in conditioner, but I do not like some of the heat styling sprays. Bedhead makes my hair feel stiff. I'd rather have a softer feel, so I use Kristin Ess. Soft hair is hard to hold curl, but I rarely curl it the first day anyway, just straighten out the kinks. The second day holds curl well. Then I use a fine mist hairspray. Unlike most, I do not like a stiff hair spray feel.

Doctors are not very good about checking Ferritin levels and if they do, don't pay much attention to low levels. I had a Ferritin level of 14 and was told it was fine, as my hair was falling out in clumps. I got rid of that doctor. I found another doctor who told me for hair growth Ferritin should really be above 50. I started Iron supplementation and I got my levels up. Much later, I found out the reason for the low ferritin was due to Celiac disease (that wasn't diagnosed for another almost 10 years). Great video Angie! It is devastating to have hair loss.

The iron is taken out on vitamins for women post menopause due to the fact we don't lose that amount of blood every month anymore. To much iron could actually be damaging to the body, so always check at dr's office before starting to take it if not fertile anymore.
@heatherdouglas-palumberi82974 ай бұрын
Yes - after we cease menstruating ingesting/absorbing excess iron (accounting for dietary sources) can increase risk for cardiac issues. Smart to consult your internist/primary care doctor and dermatologist before adding iron. My dermatologist ran several tests specific to medical sources of my hair loss (male pattern in a sixty-something female) before recommending treatment, coordinating with internist/general health records.

As far as I personally am concerned, de-stressing will have to be at the top of my list, not last thing on the list because if you're eating stressed out, your food won't do your body much good. And exercise is a stress to your body so I do that in moderation. If I may.... I've been trying to consume ACV before eating a small salad before eating my protein, before I eat my starches, before I eat my fat ( I learned to do this from the French female biolologist, I think she is). And I do a little walking up and down the stairs throughout each day and then I started incorporating a few sit ups almost every day and I mean a few - like 3-10, if I can make it and that's it. I don't stress if I can't do more than those. :)

I chose to go to the maximum (because I was in a crisis at first, and I continued because it became an easy habit that gives me great results). Each time you press the power button, it will run for a 10 minute cycle with a buzz every 30 seconds. The first 3 positions I use are across the top of the head like they show for the 90 second treatment. For anyone with thyroid issues: biotin supplements will interfere with your thyroid bloodwork. So definitely let your endocrinologist know that you take biotin so you'll know how far in advance of any bloodwork you'll need to stop it. Also, if you're on medication for thyroid (whether it's underactive or overactive), talk to your endo. ❤

Hi Angie, I love your content on your videos! Thanks you! I have a question... You talked about the liquid minoxidil being messy. I'm wondering if you know about the minoxidil pill? I've been taking it for a year and my hair is as thick as it was in high school! I am ecstatic about it! I never would have tried the liquid minoxidil since I have curly hair and wash my hair about twice a week so the liquid was definitely out of the question. Just wanted to bring that to your attention 😊

My sister is a hairstylist for 20 years and she recommended me the Ibera Paris, the colostrum line, which is a fertilization therapy done once a month with colostrum and it requires also the use of a daily serum. It has several steps. Lots of massages, it is expensive and requires heat to activate the product, but it’s the only thing that revives boldness and thickness hair. My husband bold spot is full of hair, we couldn’t believe it. We see quite an improvement in 3 months. I never recommend a product before and I was pretty skeptical but this therapy is based on science, so I tried it. Like on everything else, consistency is the key.

Great video!! Lots of info for the uninformed. Going to share with friends who need this. I have thinning hair but have naturally curly hair and don’t use a round brush. Kinda given up on fighting it with wigs that I can change styles whenever I want. The curl pattern is crazy ugly and just too much work.

Angie - you are so brilliant and truly a gift to women as they age! I'm so glad I found you. I'm getting my pierced ears fixed. My ear holes have stretched to the point that my earrings fall through the holes! 😮 Imagine my surprise the first time this happened! I dont want to lose some really good earrings! I don't know if any other older women have this. Headed to the Outer Banks in the am for a week! Can't wait! Fantastic video. So true what is said about hair issues as related to self-esteem. I have been very fortunate to have thick hair all my life, & at 53, still do. My issue is that the individual strands are much finer. The fineness/change in hair texture really affects not only how I'm able to style my hair, but 2nd & 3rd etc. day hair becomes so knotted & matted, even with use silk pillowcase. I've yet to find a solution.
@annemichaels53685 ай бұрын
@soulsurvivor1238 I have tried the bonnets which help. Now that my hair is long enough to braid I do that. Sometimes I will wrap it slightly damp around a bandana or headband. Then put the bonnet over. It dries overnight and I have curls when I unwrap it. Same idea as the old fashioned rag curlers I suppose. But, yeah, those huge knots are the worst!
@soulsurvivor12385 ай бұрын
Thank you! I actually have bonnets but don't use them often as I find they slip off, especially when using the silk pillowcase. But it's a good reminder that I need to try again, perhaps using bobbypins to better secure it. That, or buy different bonnets 😂.

@@soulsurvivor1238 I completely understand the slip off struggle. I've even wrapped a long thin scarf over my head and tied it under my chin before 😄

You might want to try minoxidil or red light therapy. It sounds like your follicles aren't producing the same thickness of hairs as they were previously and either of those therapies would help strengthen the scalp & follicles!

I have tried all of this but minoxidil, with no results, since I first noticed thinning in my early forties. Thought it was thin then, but fast forward to now at 56 and it’s very thin all over my head, versus five years ago where it was just thin on top. I’m betting it’s all minoxidil and not the laser. I am very thin and my OB/GYN said you store estrogen in fat cells. I think that’s my whole problem.

Actually seniors should not take iron except in select cases and only under the supervision of a doctor. According to the Mayo Clinic: One of the areas of contention is iron supplements for older adults. Iron is an important mineral, and iron deficiencies can lead to serious health issues. For that reason, iron supplements are a huge seller and are often pushed toward older adults with the idea that they can prevent anemia and help boost energy. The problem is that having a surplus of iron is also dangerous, and most older adults get the iron they need from diet alone. So there are many cases where taking iron supplements can actually be bad for your health. In fact, most older adults probably shouldn’t be taking iron supplements at all. Before we get into more details, we’ll sum up the Golden Rule of IOA health blogs: talk to your doctor. If you believe you have an iron deficiency, find out! Find out if supplements are right for you. Find out if they are dangerous. Iron deficiency is a real thing. But so is iron surplus. Monitoring your health, talking to your doctor, and taking professional advice is the best way to make sure you don’t suffer from either.
