Nothing unusual here. I was mugged in Lewis's department store in Leicester 50 years ago. The store security didn't give a damn and even confessed that they knew the identity of the muggers. The reason they gave was that the muggers hadn't stolen anything from the store, so it wasn't their problem.
@mythoughts7755Күн бұрын
It's because the hotel don't care or think it's not their problem that the thieves are stealing from the guests. It doesn't take long for the word to get out that it is easy pickings. The names of the hotels who don't support their guests need to be shared - maybe when they lose customers they may pay for security and perhaps good security not the type in supermarkets where the men stand scrolling through their phones taking no notice of what is actually happening in the store.

I’m a Brit who moved abroad when Brexit happened. Glad I did. I think part of the problem is that in England it seemed that too many people were not about taking personal responsibility but more about blaming someone else (Mayors, government, etc, etc.) instead of being more self accountable. I’m living in Spain and people take more responsibility for themselves, and care about their families and friends and community. It feels like England did 50 years ago. Sad to see how values have changed and ‘entitlement’ has gone up. Just my observations and I know it’s not across the board.

As we were seated, we noticed a man blatantly helping himself to many food items in Waitrose, £15 menu deals in fact, which were displayed at the end of the shelves. He was filling quite a large carrier bag with all these packages. He then nonchalantly walked into the gents bathroom. We waited for at least 10 - 15 minutes, for him to appear, but didn’t see him come out, although we noticed at least two other men around the same age emerge from the gents with carrier bags. I too mention this for people to be aware not to put their shopping down where it can be grabbed while they are eating a meal or distracted, as it could be whipped away in an instant and passed to a waiting partner in crime.

It’s strange how you forgot to mention these figures, maybe your next project should be to look into how many of these closed police stations were purchased by developers that were Tory donors.

Of course I didn't and remarked that it was strange that he had popped out of nowhere with this advice! Anyway in the 15 minutes it took me to get home and phone my bank (jumping through the press 1, press 4 etc... hoops) they had got my card out of the ATM and spent over £600 by using it contactlessly in various shops some quite a distance away, I imagine electric cycles or boards were used to join up a network of people just waiting in stores. My bank did refund me the money which was a relief, but I could have done without the palaver!

How sad to have to check yourself into a hotel while your luggage 🧳 is stolen .
@elizabethround2401Күн бұрын
This is a top tip Neil, thank you. When travelling g after Christmas I noticed that the fast food places at the motorway services now have the same self ordering screens and whole families are glued to the screens an no-one is looking after the wallets and handbags. I miss the old days when I spoke to an actual human being😢. Keep up the good work, we all appreciate you. Happy New Year

Whether one travels frequently or is on a once in a lifetime trip that would be SO disheartening. It doesn’t sound like the hotel or the desk clerk were any help at all! It would be so easy to lose sight of one’s bags while checking oneself in. I miss the days of full service.😊👋🏼

The same thing applies when you are self-checking in at the airport Neil, make sure you have your suitcase between you and the machine so that no one can get it. 🇳🇿

If everyone ignored the self check ins they would have to do something about it !

Great advice, Neil! As tourists we often get so rapt up in our surroundings that we drop our defences. It’s such a good practice to be mindful of your belongings and surroundings.

When the Wealthy can't travel without worrying about being Robbed inside the Hotels, that when these Hotels will go under! I have stopped traveling and going out shopping by myself because of the Criminal behavior! We are seriously at a dark time in History and could be brighter if Justice was served on those horrible criminals in Society!

Sadiq Khan MUST BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED AS THE MAYOR OF LONDON. HE IS ENCOURAGING THIS SORT OF CRIME ALL OVER LONDON: REASON: HE IS TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE IN DOING HIS JOB. GET RID OF HIM NOW.

The people had the chance to get rid of him at the election and didn't. You can't then complain about him. Shame on you if you didn't vote

in fact he is very effective in doing what he does, not what you expect

He knows exactly what he's doing, as do Liebour, Tories, etc, royal family, other countries. Cause or allow carnage & panic/uproar, eventually the outcome is to bring in martial law, this being full control of the people. It's one small aspect of Agenda 2030. Complete control of a united world.

Hi Neil...I've watched all the Marple movies. My favourite ones were with Geraldine MacEwan. She brought a delicate beauty and strength to the role. Bertrams Hotel is one of my favourites.

It is such a shame that these things happen. Thank you, Neil, for sharing and reminding us to be ever vigilant in looking after ourselves and our belongings. We are often distracted by tasks or even polite interactions that minimize our attention to the details around us.

Thank you Neil, I travel frequently and I appreciate this very useful information. I am usually very careful but I never would of thought someone would steal luggage right out from under me at the reception area of a hotel. Obviously terrible hotel security.

Neil- I spent a magical 10 days in London in February 2018. I’m from Philadelphia originally, so I’m used to a normal level of vigilance automatically, but I’m happy to say that I never felt in danger or in need to up my vigilance. I’m blessed that I got that magnificent experience as my age, my health, and the state of London, now all mean I won’t get back. I’m very lucky that over my first 70 years I got to see many of the major cities of the world; even if I were still younger and healthier, I don’t know that I would travel to most of then today. BTW- Happy New Year! 4

I wish you well and good health, you sound like an adventurous character! I live in London, and it is still full of good people with kind hearts and good intentions. It breaks my heart to see what Sadique Khan has done to lower standards and demoralise us native Brits. Happy New Year from London ❤

I remember the celebrity Kerry Katona posting on insta that she’d had a suitcase stolen from a hotel lobby . Can’t remember if it was London , she was in panto at the time. She’d left it with the hotel concierge but it got swiped from their trolly . Think she said the bag itself was worth more than the items inside . 😮 I presume the hotel paid compensation seems it was left in their possession at the time.

What a shame this going on…..nothing seems safe anymore. I live in the US but have been to London and love it so, it’s such a beautiful city and Neil, you have shown us so many wonderful areas that I never would have seen had you not gone to so much effort to share your knowledge and personal stories while out and about. Be safe dear friend that I’ve never met 👋👋❤️
