From the lively streets of Vancouver's music scene emerges the alt-rock powerhouse, Hotel Mira (@HotelMira), whose recent magnetic performance at Sydney's SXSW left audiences rapidly funnelling their songs into favoured playlists.
Originally formed by dynamic duo Charlie Kerr on vocals and Mike Noble on bass, Hotel Mira expanded their sonic horizons in 2018, welcoming Clark Grieve on guitar and keyboards, and Cole George on drums. Their collaborative efforts on their self-titled debut album "Hotel Mira," ignited a global following with its stomping percussion and neon-soaked synths reminiscent of indie club dancefloors from the early 2000s.
Drawing inspiration from the unbridled energy of punk and the iconic sounds of 90s indie rock legends, Hotel Mira has sculpted a sound that's uniquely theirs. Sharing stages with heavyweights like Billy Talent, Foals, and July Talk, Hotel Mira has solidified their status as a force to be reckoned with in today’s alt-rock scene. Their recent US/Canadian tour included 27 headline dates, as well as a performance at School Night LA and multiple opening slots for The Rare Occasions (April 2023).
Their latest single, "The King Of The World," a standout track from their sophomore album "I Am Not Myself," made its mark on Aussie ears last October. This infectious track takes listeners on a journey of introspection, delving into the complexities of the anti-hero trope with unapologetically honest lyrics.
Frontman Charlie Kerr, a natural-born storyteller and captivating performer, reveals the essence behind the "The King Of The World," lyrics performed for us here on the roof days before their Sydney SXSW performance.
"At the core of 'The King Of The World' is a straightforward message: I am bad news. I make the same mistakes over and over again and your approval and endorsement of me doesn’t comfort me or bolster confidence at all. Your desire for me makes me more suspicious of your taste. I want my self-destruction to have the smallest blast area as possible. I think we all remember what happened to Jack at the end of the Titanic…”
“Hotel Mira is quickly becoming one of the hottest new acts to watch. The band has an electrifying energy that radiates through their music” - Earmilk
“For an album that has a lot of uptempo moments in optimistic-sounding major keys, it's not afraid to embrace important, darker topics” - Exclaim [Perfectionism - 2020]
