Hotel Review: Luxury at the Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong

The stunning Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong is an absolute dream - think: old-school opulence and true luxury hospitality. From entering into the grand lobby, to being whisked straight to your luxurious room, the arrival experience for club guests makes every guest feel like a rockstar. We stayed on property in December 2019, right before Christmas and right in time to experience the incredible festive vibes at both the hotel and in Hong Kong.
Our Horizon Club Harbour View Room was located on the 54th floor of the hotel with a spectacular view over the harbour and city skyline. The room is 479 square feet of pure elegance, complete with a chandelier, Nespresso machine (my fave!) and size-able bathroom.
While on property, we learned that they will be undergoing renovations to update the rooms and we were excited to learn this as some of the elements were outdated in the room- mainly related to technology. However, I will say the hotel did an excellent job making up for some of the missing tech pieces by providing charging cords that reached the nightstand, to ensure guests did not have to go looking for an outlet.
We spent most of our “dining time” at the Horizon Club, which provided exceptional canapés that were enough to fill you for dinner. The lounge had a wide spread of food that changed nightly and included spring rolls, dumplings, noodles, salads, desserts, meat and vegetarian options.
We classify 5-star service as getting what you want before you know you want it. The staff at the hotel anticipated every need and appeared practically out of thin air before you could finish your drink to pour you another. In fact, Hayden even told us when we joked about how quick he was, that the champagne is best when it’s cold so it was his duty to make sure we never ran empty.
