The top Genndy joints are Samurai Jack and Primal. Hotel Transylvania is _not_ a Genndy joint though. He was hired as an animator, and it's very clear (his specific energy is all over this animation), but he didn't write it or anything.

I amazing how this movie is able to shift from hilarious to heartfelt and back again and still have it all feel natural. Sad how the sequels decided to take a more comedic approach (which weren't even funny) while the first movie was genuinely heartfelt.

This movie is so funny and heartwarming, and a total love letter to the Universal Monsterverse. Everyone's voice performance in this is very good. Especially Dracula, able to go from hilarious to heartfelt in an instant.

Jonathan is a character that had the potential to be extremely annoying, granted he was mildly annoying to me personally, he had a childlike sense of wonder and charm that made him relatable.

And he was so actually cool, like yeah he's got like 10 braincells but he uses those braincells for what he believes is right. As much as "he just rolls" is a joke, he really does, it takes him like 10 minutes to acclimate to "ok monsters are real" and subsequently "monsters are pretty chill" and sure he's ignorant but they've been hiding for god knows how long so the stereotypes are all he knows, but once he gets corrected and he just fixes his behavior, no muss or fight just "oh that's not right? Cool got it!" And that's the end! He even shows a level of emotional intelligence in him not actually wanting to kiss Mavis and rejecting her all because he respects drac and his pain. And while that in the end was the wrong decision it came from a place of empathy.

I love the fact that this is a very kinetic movie. There are very few scenes where things are completely still, yet it doesn't feel cluttered or overly busy. They hit the sweet spot.

I still remember when I first watched this. I was in kindergarten when this came out and my elementary school had move nights several times a year. Though aging single guys, like myself, may not be the target audience of Hotel Transylvania - the series still appeals to the boyish and creative side of me - and remains one of my Tartakovsky favorites. - With current days sensibilities, when comes to relationships portrayed in movies and series - animated or otherwise - I dare say the 'old approach' should not be entirely dismissed. Though not something one should pursue exclusively, it should still not be considered less aspirational. Even I if I have had less success relationship wise, I still believe the 'love at first sight' trope occasionally has its merit in family entertainment. After all - Love at first sight - does not always mean the first person you encounter, but - the first time you encounter 'someone special'.

I’ve always loved this film, the sequels aren’t as good as many also believe, but the story still stands as a beautiful one. Also I’ll never get over how many people thirsted after the invisible man and then when they found out what he looks like when not invisible they were horrified because he wasn’t hot 💀 Like that shit had me gasping for air I was laughing so hard 😂
