Honestly the Garlic line before it always made me crack. Just the idea that Drac just has a severe allergic reaction to garlic is simultaneously the funniest and most believable interpretation of that weakness. Another awesome fact i love about this series is: When director Genndy Tartakovsky immigrated to America from Russia at age seven, some of the first movies he saw on American TV were Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein," "Blazing Saddles," "History of the World Part 1" and "The Producers." "Those were my comedic pillars growing up," says the director. "Mel Brooks is one of the foundations of comedy, he's been around forever, he shaped my comic sensibility, and he's still sharp and witty, so I was very nervous to direct him. He's amazing it's not like he needs directing," says Tartakovsky. "But I remember at one point, he wanted to hear how I thought he should do one particular line. What was I gonna tell Mel Brooks? But he wanted me to do it, so I did it, and he liked it, and he did it the way I did it. That was an amazing moment for me I'll never forget that.

That stake to the heart joke where dracula says "Who wouldn't that kill?" Always makes me laugh because in the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and even in it's spin off show Angel they actually do kill most of the monsters and demons with stakes or stake like weapons such as wooden poles or bolts and arrows. There's even an episode where one of the characters accidentally kills a innocent person who they mistake for a monster by stabbing them in the heart with a stake.

What's so strange about the original Design of Dennis was initially designed with giant curls of his father's red hair but when translated to computer animation, his hair was so big that it blocked the light in front of Dennis' face and nobody's arms would have been long enough to hold Dennis since his hair took so much space. Dennis' final model had more than 265 individual strands. Once the computer filled in the rest, there were a grand total of 150,000 hairs.

Don't be so hard on "Happy Madison" movies. His early work is still eminently rewatchable: "Happy Gilmore," "The Waterboy," "Little Nicky," and "Billy Madison" have some of the most quotable (and meme-able) scenes in cinema-comedy history! It's true though, that, after a while, Sandler did sort of run out of gas, and needs some help making movies from actual directing talent anymore.

@@JamesDavy2009 to be fair, Richard Pryor has been in many movies and acted quite well in them, plus Richard Pryor wasn't the problem with Super III, it was pretty much everything else in the movie. Honestly, Superman movies have never been great if you're looking at them critically, it's just that the first two are entertaining enough and Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman are great actors. Superhero movies didn't get seriously good until Batman and then after that they stopped being as seriously good until Iron Man, as the ones in between are either mediocre, laughably bad, or just too comical and hammy for many to take as serious films, though I'd argue Spiderman/II helped bridge the gap between Batman and Iron Man.

One point I wish this video covered was how Hotel Transylvania 2 was about a topic I've never seen covered in a kids movie: Culturally Mixed Families. The two main plotlines of Drac trying to make Dennis more "vampiric" and Mavis and Jon experimenting with suburban life both have strong analogies to two issues that can arise in culture mixed families. I'd like to preface this as being a Jewish man from an Israeli family who married a Christian woman from a Filipino family. Drac and his father Vlad are both played by legendary Jewish actors, and many of the "Vampire Culture" moments they exhibit share similarities to Jewish cultures: frequent complaining, parents being the fearful heads of the household, a stubbornness against compromise, and a positive outlook on "tradition". Drac tries to fool his father that his grandson Dennis is a vampire because he doesn't want Dennis and Mavis to be shunned by the Vampire community for not being "pure". I sympathize with Drac as I've met numerous Jewish friends who were outcasted from their families or communities for marrying outside their cultures. From personal experience, my parents weren't fond when my first girlfriend wasn't Jewish, but luckily, much like Vlad, they came around and fell in love with the woman I eventually married, though they still object to certain cultural norms my wife shares. With Mavis and Jon in suburbia, we get an opposite problem of forcing a culture: inhibiting ones culture. Mavis starts excited at the "human" lifestyle of technology, food, and activities. She even meets another monster who is married to a human and lives in suburbia. But in doing so, this monster gave up his monster heritage, and looks dull and miserable because of it. Mavis contemplates raising her son as a human or a monster, and in the former, asks if she'd have to live a human life as well. The counterpoint to both these views are Dennis and Winnie, the werewolf girl. The two children focussed in the movie come from different worlds, and they don't care. Winnie likes Dennis, not because he is a human or a monster, but because she likes him. And Dennis likes Winnie for everything she is. This becomes the moral of the story, that you can culturally identify with either of your parents, or both, or none, and still have a loving family.

In the second movie, they talk about vampires learning how to hunt by catching mice, so maybe he still goes after smaller creatures on the property. Or maybe with all the middle age dad jokes, he'd rather just grab a drink from the hotel bar from time to time cause he's way too rusty to do things like he did "in his hundreds".

It’s also like when Adam Sandler’s character in “Click” rewinds his father’s last words to him before he died; “I love you son”. I like how the production team initially thought Vlad should inhabit an old-school castle--in other words, a classic foreboding location right out of a vampire movie from the twentieth century--before deciding to have him live in a cave instead to show how secluded he's become. It kind of shows Dracula growth as a character and show's how much he's improved over the years.

Thanks Doug (and Team!). These films were a wonderful opportunity to not only bond with my incredible Grand-Daughter, but later, I used them as a stepping stone to introduce her to one of my dearest collection of films, the original Universal Monsters family (which at first she didn't care for but now a teen, really loves them, thankfully, heh). I agree, not only did these films entertain but did so without insulting the audience's attention or trying to deliver some half-assed political messaging. They also provided a modicum of respect to the source materials I was happy to see. Oh also, I had no idea there was a 4th one. Cheers my friend and my gratz once more on the continued success of you and your very talented team! You've been in the game a long time and I still really enjoy your presentations, whether I agree with your evaluation of a flik or not.

Draculas family(who look peaceful and seem not wanting to hurt anyone) is attack by a mob and loses wife to humans, the. It transcends to drac and his daughter crying with the house in flame’s”they are the real monsters” man that is as deep. Second is that the main gang(Dracula Wayne Frank and Murray) seeing the Monster festival, after centuries of hiding in fear running from humans hunting them. They all find a whole village and locals and tourists having a party Dedicated to Them! The shock & on their faces is incredible. I can’t imagine what’s going on in their minds if this ain’t a sign tis have changed I don’t now what is.

my own opinion on the last movie : Dracula should have stayed human, and Johnny should have stayed a monster, since it was the premise of the movie and with all the development of character in the movie. kinda hard to "retire" when you are immortal but your new wife is still a human. on another hand Mavis with a monster Johnny would thrive forever

A note on Brian Hull's voice: he had actually already been Dracula in the series for shorts, previews where they needed lines that wouldn't make it into the movie, and just in general doing the voice for things smaller than the full movies that they didn't want to pay Sandler for, so having him do the "direct to Amazon" movie was still a great opportunity for him, although not a complete surprise.

Winnie is the only one of them I like as I feel bad for her in that situation and she deserves better. Also am I the only one who questions their parenting as they never once interact with her and makes me question whether or not they love her. Also if they’re clearly overwhelmed by having many kids, then why are they parents in the first place. To me it’s just a repeat of the cliche that having kids ruins your live and I am so sick of that!!

As much as I dislike the 3rd movie, the idea of Dracula getting a new love interest is Not a bad one. It could send a good message about how it's ok to move on from your old loved ones. The only 2 problems are that said love interest Erika is so poorly written and generic, that your not rooting for her to be with Dracula, and the film never got to address Martha.

I personally rather enjoy the Hotel Transylvania movies, mainly the first two. The third movie I remember being fine, nothing really that special. Just more over the top. The fourth movie I was more just disappointed with as it really felt like retreading old waters and had potential for a much more interesting story. Like you'd think after the first two movies Drac got over the trying to lie to Mavis and be a bit more confident with dealing with Johnny. Like he doesn't even try talking to them at all about his doubts as far as I recall. Each movie had serious undertones. First was about a single father who lost his wife and tried to take care of his family and friends from those he thought would kill them and learning to trust them again. Second was about expections on a child and third had trying to move on from losing a loved and being able to love someone else instead of isolating yourself into loneliness. The fourth just goes back to learning to trust simply because he's an idiot and doesn't do anything. I think that the swapping could have done something much more interesting with mortality. Have Johnny be keeping up a lie that he's the same age as Mavis throughout the past few movies then have her find out that he's actually in his 20's to 30's. Maybe she makes a joke about him being 118 and some random person mentions that humans can't live that long. You could have Mavis panic and become overprotective like Drac was. Become more overprotective of him than even Dennis because he's human and more vulnerable. This could push him into becoming a monster to be less of a burden on her as well be there for his family longer. Mavis could see how her anxiety pushed him to that point as well as battle if living longer at the cost of being something else and losing themselves is worth it. Drac could talk about his experience after losing his wife and help her out. It would be a more natural conflict that ties in with lessons from the last movies. The shoe could be on the other foot. Yes my idea isn't perfect and could lead to other issues plus might lose on wacky comedy for kids. But I think that would be an interesting story that's not really been done too much. The only example I can think of with a conflict of a mortal romantically involved with an immortal is Doctor Who. "You can live the rest of your life with me, but I can't live the rest of my life with you". I don't know. As I say, I think that they could have done more with the concept they have.
@PaperMarioParty08
@PaperMarioParty08 Ай бұрын
I definitely agree with all of this. My main problem with the 3rd and 4th movies is that they don't do much to add to the themes and messages of the previous movies. The 3rd movie's plot is pretty much the same as the first, with Drac falling in love with a human. It could've focused more on Dracula moving on from his first wife Martha, and while it does occasionally mention Martha, it never delves any deeper into that theme. As a result, the third movie just feels pointless. The 4th movie did try to add a new message about looking at the positive side of things and not getting caught up on the negative, but it doesn't really work because they did it by regressing the characters and telling the same story about Drac accepting Johnny again.
