Brent and Vance, what kind of thread are you using on those materials, vinyl and cloth? Can really appreciate the learning curve on that, should be easy, till I tried it. Keep teaching us, you inspired me to spend the last two nites in shop again. Thx Brent!

I personally use a nylon thread for home and auto, and marine grade thread for boat uph (swells when it gets wet). I buy my threads and all supplies through dedicated uph suppliers, if you decide to look for thread thats similar, maybe try a store like Joann fabrics or a place thats similar

I remember in the 60s my dad would cover the seats with a clear vinal and in the summer in CA I wouldn't wear a shirt. They would have to pull me from the seat because I was stuck to it.

Yup and black vinyl was the worst! I remember wearing shorts, feeling a small searing pain on the backside of my thighs and finding out that the vinyl had got so hot, it came off the seat and stuck there. Not a bad burn, but painful nonetheless.

To make a usefull back stitch that will be more secure than your knot tying. Start tour piece of materials lined up and sew about 6 stitches. LEAVE THE NEEDLE INTO THE LAST STICH. Lift the pressure foot and turn your whole piece so that the needle is (still into the material) going as if you had just started to sew. Stitch over your first stitches, or if using a plastic type non woven material as your red vinyl. Move this second (securing -back stich) over about a 16 of an inch TOWARD THE INSIDE between the first stitches and the cut edge. (This is so these last 6 stitches won't be showing and PULLING holes on the viewing side of your cushion as you pull to make smooth.) finally set your stitches back to complete the line of the first 6 stitches. Gurrantee these stitches won't unravel. I love your wonderful handy work. Never dreamed I could be any help to you, and hope this is. Fondly mrsb..75 yrs. Sewing ha.

I enjoy sowing, haven’t done it for years. I’ve done an interior by stretching material over door panels, dash and contact adhesive glued then on the back, for the roof I glued half a click together dome button thing on to the roof about 2 feet apart and then pushed the dome through the material into the clicker, loooked like the inside of a coffin in a good way. Anyhu great vid, illl have ago at doing my current interior soon thx ;)

Hey go check out a You Tuber called ( Jonathan W ) he has done several interiors. I think the most in depth video was probably 5 months ago or so. He did a complete interior with pleats and everything. 2 colors. Turned out really nice. It was an old torpedo nose Studebaker. He has also done a couple 31 ford's after that. They weren't quit as nice but fit the rat rod look he is going for. He will tell you himself he is by no means a great seamstress and he doesn't by any means do anything close to show interiors. Buy he just wants a nice driver. He shows his flaws and he says the more he does the better he gets. He shows how he makes piping as well, for accents around panels. He builds some cool old rat rods as well. It's worth a look. I never thought I could do interiors either. Buy after watching him I may give it a try someday.

You got that right. Vinyl is not cheap if you want to do a HalfAssed job. Parden the PUN. I reupholstered the seats in my boat a couple of years back and they turned out quite good. the vinyl cost me $100.00 a yard. I found that if you Don't sew the old and new panels together, that you can stretch them over the seat better. I used my heat gun as well to soften the vinyl to stretch better. If you want to lock your stitch at the end, You stop and make sure the needle is down in you Vinyl, lift the sewing machine foot, rotate the vinyl 180 deg. then lower the foot and take a few stitches, then stop. You can do this a couple of times if you want, but do it at least once. Your job still turned out not too bad. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍😷

To better attach two pieces of material together that aren't of the same color (you can also do it with pieces of the same color) you buy what is called "PIPING", it's basically a material wrapped cord with about a half inch of excess material below the cord that's meant to sandwich between the two pieces you want to sew together. . What you do is put the piping's excess half inch in between both pieces you're planning to sew together and with the sewing machines threading foot butt the side snugly against the piping (you'll feel the piping even though you won't see it when the foot has descended against the bottom). hand turn the machine a turn or two to assure you've pierced all three layer and start sewing. What the piping does is not only enhance the appearance but it protectrs the connecting stiches from being rubbed on by daily use and weakened enough to break apart; By the way, That little tool you're cutting the panels apart with is called a "seam ripper".
